What God do I have to pray to to have Netflix be more transparent, or even fix the My List trick, so we know what's expiring. Hulu just tells you it's so exhausting the others that play games.

ReplyDeleteKing Arthur probably just hasn't been added yet, duh.
DeleteBut it's not in the June or July press releases of upcoming titles so, yes, it remains weird.
DeleteSometimes, they add films that are surprises for the month on the first. Based on the appearance on the list, two things are apparent:
Delete1. We're getting one of the King Arthur movies (presumably the 2004 film) on July 1 as one of the surprise entries.
2. King Arthur will be on for only the month of July. I've found of late that there's several titles that are only around for one month so it's not a shocker.
It's true the press release is not a complete list of upcoming titles, far from it. It's just you'd expect that to be in the list of upcoming titles if it's in the list of expiring titles!
Deletethey probably assumed it was obvious if it's also being removed and that there was no benefit to drawing attention to it only being available for a month.

ReplyDelete@RICHARD BRANDT IS ALL GOOD NO PROB :0)
Delete
DeleteHe certainly is, and so are you Anonymous (but not so much What's on Netflix). I decided to delete the original comment and all but the last reply because it got a little confusing. All correct titles, dates, and number of seasons are now on the master list. Thanks to you both for your good work.

ReplyDeleteFirst Temptation of Christ is a Netflix original. I though Netflix originals don't expire.
DeleteIt's extremely rare but they do. Netflix has worldwide rights to this, and it debuted less than 2 years ago, so that makes it even more of an anomaly. Thanks for spotting it.
DeleteBTW The Last Hangover is also a Netflix original, same Brazilian producers. It's a featurette at only 44 minutes.
Delete
DeleteAnd now they've both been renewed, so there you go.

ReplyDeleteWhat website is the Netflix press release posted on?
DeleteNumerous websites. I just have a Google alert set that notifies me when one of them posts it.

DeleteThanks will g - no problem about the dates; I'll put them on when I do all my other steps. I do wish NF would provide them, though - if there are 2 of the same title that are more than 4 wks out, we have no way of knowing which one is leaving. And NF is so perfect in everything else they do. Ay caramba!
What makes it even more maddening is the year is still included for the "More Like This" titles listed below the title you're looking at.
Delete
DeleteRe: The Queen
This is a case in point for why we need the year from Netflix for titles on the press release. There are two films titled The Queen - the 2006 one for which Helen Mirren won the Best Actress Oscar, and a 1968 documentary about the other kind of queen. Based on the dates they were added to NF, I'm guessing it's the Helen Mirren film that's leaving (also, NF tends to list the best-known movies on the press release), but we won't know for certain until September 1.
Note on Star Trek, the original series, 3 seasons, expiring 30 Sept. As of 1 Sept., 6 p.m. EDT, on the main page showing titles for September, the link for the series directs to the movie instead of to the series. (I.e., the link on the listing for the expiring movie and the link for the expiring Star Trek TOS series both go to the same page-which displays the listing for the movie.)
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your work in providing this valuable resource!
DeleteYou're welcome, Phil L., and thank YOU for finding this incorrect link. It was a snafu because both movie and series have the same title. It has been fixed now.
ReplyDeleteHi Everyone, I just want to reassure you that the master list will eventually get updated. I've been so busy, I just haven't had time to work on it. Hopefully, it will get done before next week. In the meantime, thanks to all our wonderful contributors for keeping us up-to-date with expiring titles.
Carol - you are truly amazing to find the time each week/month to keep this awesome Netflix content blog going, and I agree all the fabulous contributors deserve to take a bow as well! Without y'all I would be lost in the Netflix sea of constantly expiring content!

DeleteThanks Unknown, I really enjoy being part of something that exists so people can help each other. It might be a small part of things, but any little piece of sanity we can help each other hold on to is worth it in my book. :-)
Time again for silly season on Netflix. The following seasons of American Horror Story are scheduled to expire in early October per What’s On Netflix and the Netflix app:
ReplyDeleteSeason 6–Roanoke (10/5)
Season 5–Hotel (10/3)
Season 4–Freak Show ((10/5)
Seasons have expired before and returned so who knows what will happen? The seasons are also streaming on Amazon Prime and Hulu with no expiration dates shown.
DeleteI do not see expiration dates on the episodes for these three seasons (or any others). Might they have been renewed already? If anyone sees availability notices, please let me know. Otherwise, I'm not going to put these on the master list. Thanks.
Yeah, the notices are gone. Netflix has a special relationship with this show (I think because of their Ryan Murphy deal) so you sometimes get a couple of days with the notices before the renewal hits. This happens on Hulu sometimes with other shows.
DeleteCarol, thanks for catching the renewal of these 3 seasons.

ReplyDeleteAnd it should say "Reckoning - 1 Season" for that miniseries.
Deletefor what it's worth, i was on the phone with netflix a couple weeks back and repeated your "no years" complaint. the rep i spoke with pointed out they are there. we were in browsers searching for movies and looking at the details pages, and i had to agree the year was shown. i don't know when they fixed that or if it's reverted already.
DeleteWell isn't that something, you're right, I DO see the year now on the web detail page. I could SWEAR they still weren't there this morning when I posted the release, unless I'm REALLY losing it, which is possible. Thanks for mentioning to them and making me double check it.
Delete
DeleteTo Travis and will g re: year of release. First, let me make it clear that I am definitely losing it, so if this sounds like I don't get what you're talking about, that's why. will g, I thought when you said the years weren't there, you meant they weren't on the press release, which they're not - they used to be, then they disappeared, were back for a couple months recently, now are gone again. But now it sounds like you're talking about the years showing on the movie's detail page on the Netflix site. They've always been there, but only when you open the page, not when you just hover over the poster. For me, the problem is when there are two movies with the same title, and NF doesn't put the year on the press release, e.g., The Queen, leaving on 9/30. The press release came out on 8/25, so we couldn't check which one was leaving on the Netflix site. Let me know if I'm missing the point of what the two of you were discussing. Sometimes my brain feels like a Jackson Pollack painting. I need Monet.
will g, if you were saying that you couldn't put the years on the titles, because you weren't seeing them on the details pages, then I understand, and was misunderstanding before. With all the changes NF has been making, even Einstein would get muddled, so don't feel bad. Don't worry about putting the years on unless there are duplicate titles. I have to check all of that anyway when I do my part, so it's no big deal to add the release years.
No when I first mentioned this last month, it was because I wasn't seeing the year on the website detail page, the one you see after clicking the down arrow. I am pretty confident I was correct, that they weren't there any more when I said it, though you seem to be saying they were never missing for you, and you misunderstood what I was talking about? At any rate, there they are now, plain as day. I don't know why I didn't see them yesterday, unless, like I said, I'm losing it. I did only check one title though.
DeleteI mean I only checked for the year on one title, of course I checked the press-release titles on the site for other things.
Delete
DeleteOkay, thanks for clarifying, will g. Glad we're all on the same page, now. I think losing it is kind of in the air these days. Things are pretty crazy all around.
it is, they are, but as for this aspect, there is only one web browser experience, and the year was missing in august, even though the same view would show the year for related titles. i hadn't checked since then because i don't use the details page of the streaming site, and the rep i spoke with had no knowledge of the year ever not being there. whether this is another instance of netflix failing to maintain its own website or some kooky thing they were trying is anyone's guess.
Delete
DeleteThanks Travis. I totally believe both you and will g, so I can only conclude that there must indeed have been more than one web browser experience in August. I use the details page for every title I put on the master list, checking for exact title, last day to watch, and year (also, seasons for series). I would have noticed if the year wasn't there. Let's not forget that Netflix specializes in crazy-making, and has been screwing around with the way its pages look for the last several months. Not all changes get made at the same time for every subscriber, so maybe some subscribers didn't get that apparently temporary change at all. Nothing they do surprises me.
Thanks to both of you for helping me understand what the problem was - I was clueless, and thinking it was just about the press release not showing years.
see will g's August 25, 2021 at 2:32 PM comment above for more. i can confirm that when will g was posting about it, i checked and saw the year missing for the main title but present for the related ones. i probably assumed you got the years another way, so it must have varied by account and/or browser.
Delete
DeleteI remember seeing the comment you refer to, and thinking it didn't make sense to me, but I was in a hurry, and clueless, and more concerned with other things, so I didn't ask more about it at the time. Now, a month later, I get it. Thanks.
It's intriguing and a bit disturbing that Carol was seeing something different on the website in August than Travis and me. I know the user interface on Roku and other streaming devices is different than it is on the web, but we've now uncovered that all web users may not be seeing the same thing at the same time. I didn't even know that was possible!
Delete
DeleteOne possibility: Netflix offers a choice to be part of the "test group." Pretty sure I said no to that. Any chance you (and/or Travis) could be in that category?
Not that I'm aware of, if I was in a test group it was without my knowledge.
Deletei have that disabled as well.
DeleteDick Johnson is Dead (2020?), a Netflix original documentary, has been removed without notice.
ReplyDelete
DeleteThanks Wellesley72. So exasperating. If anyone is curious, here is the New on Netflix USA page for Dick Johnson Is Dead:
https://usa.newonnetflix.info/info/80234465
It got awfully good reviews on Rotten Tomatoes: 100% of critics liked it, and 78% of audience members (with the caution that you had to be up for a true-life movie about dealing with death). Thanks a lot, Netflix.
It’s back!
DeleteLOL. I had a feeling it was a glitch.
Delete
DeleteOh, those crazy Netflix people. I'm actually kind of glad for their mistake. I probably would have never known about the film, but it's something that interests me, so now I'll watch it.
Thanks for being on top of this stuff, Wellesley72.
As noted in the main list, NF is only streaming season 2 of Cleverman (last day 9/30). Both seasons are streaming on Google Play, iTunes, Prime Video and YouTube.
ReplyDelete
DeleteThanks ChapelHillNC, I was wondering about Season 1. It looks like all of the above options require payment of some kind (even if you subscribe to Prime Video), but at least there's an option. Netflix had both seasons for a while, but Season 1 went away last year.
