Following is a list of streaming services and the 2023 Oscar-nominated films you can watch there. Use Control + F to find a particular film or streaming service on this page.
This is a “down-and-dirty” list, in that it doesn’t show all the categories each film was nominated for, nor does it give any info about the films (plot, actors, directors, etc.) If you would like more details, try the Rotten Tomatoes list @:
https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/article/where-to-watch-the-oscar-nominated-films-of-2023
Note: The list below shows films as "available to rent" only if they aren’t on any streaming service, but almost all streaming films can be rented if you would prefer to do that. Also, there are more places to rent/buy films than Amazon Prime, e.g., Vudu.
I will do my best to make updates as new info becomes available (the RT site above and others like it do not appear to be updating). Please feel free to make comments below if you find new info, or if anything is incorrect on this list. Also, feel free to recommend or not recommend any of these films, or make predictions about winners if you are so inclined.
Remember that most streaming services offer a free trial, so you can watch what you want with that, and just cancel before the trial period ends.
Happy viewing!

ReplyDeletePrediction: Everything Everywhere All at Once will win for Best Film Editing. The editing was brilliant, and the film would have been a mess without it.
Wishful thinking: I would love to see Bill Nighy win for Best Actor - he deserves it for his body of work, and I love watching him. Can't wait for Living to come to streaming. But if I had to predict, I'd have to go with Colin - his performance in Banshees was so heartfelt and heartbreaking.
I'd love to hear what others thought.
DeleteOne more note: The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse is the most tender, sweetest film I've seen in a long time. It's a beautifully animated short, made for children, but its message is for all of us. I hope it wins.
My Year of Dicks is now streaming on Hulu through 3/11.
DeleteMake that 3/18, Le Pupille is the one leaving earlier.
DeleteAccording to their press releases, Triangle of Sadness comes to Hulu tomorrow, while Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris will be include with Prime on March 14 and Top Gun: Maverick on March 24.
ReplyDeleteGood solid work! An immense help to updating my own list.
Just got an e-mail from Peacock: They'll have Puss in Boots: The Last Wish on March 10.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteLiving (best actor Bill Nighy) is now available to rent. A bit pricey at $19.99, but it gives me hope it will be coming to one of the streaming services soon.
All changes in comments so far have now been added to the list. Changes are in red.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Thanks for your help, Richard - great info!
DeleteSure thing - you're keeping me on my toes as well with these updates!
DeleteThe Quiet Girl is now available for pre-order on VUDU.
ReplyDeletePlease note that the Amazon Prime Video movie "Women Talking" (F) is only available for free to Prime members now until
ReplyDeleteSunday March 12 at 9 PM PDT.
Prime Video is weird that way. You adjust the Pacific Time to the time zone where you reside to determine your own local cutoff time.
So your listing might say: Women Talking (F) - free for Prime members until 3/12 at 9 PM PDT
Thanks Larry. Yeah, the time thing is confusing. Also, it's only available for 5 days (4 now)??
DeleteIs that something Amazon does? Strange.
The movie was produced and released by MGM's Orion Pictures, which is owned by Amazon. The special limited 5-day run on Prime was just announced yesterday. I've read that it will then be available to stream for a longer period around July.
Delete‘Women Talking’ is streaming free on Amazon for Oscar weekend only
ReplyDeleteAll updates above are now on the list.
Also, "Everything Everywhere All at Once" (F) is available on Showtime, not Paramount.
ReplyDeleteJustWatch.com is a service that can display New arrivals on a daily basis
Deletefor all the streaming services like Amazon Prime Video and Netflix.
First you go to the homepage. Then click on New in the banner at the top of the page.
Next click on the icon for the streaming service you want to check.
You can see All daily results or narrow them to see just Movies or just TV Shows.
They also have a webpage with Oscar Nominees 2023.
https://www.justwatch.com/us/oscars-2023
Right-click on an Oscar Nominee movie poster to open the title in a new browser tab.
Then scroll down to see where to watch on the Stream [if available], Rent and Buy rows.
Scroll further down the page to see any trailers, teasers and featurettes available.
DeleteThanks for the JustWatch info, LarryG.
Regarding Paramount/Showtime, I think these two have merged. When I go to the Paramount streaming service, all the Showtime stuff is there, so I just combined them on this page.
Amazon Prime Video offers subscription access to some of the other streaming services like Showtime, HBOMax, and Paramount+ as add-on Channels, so you can watch most everything in one place on APV. I have been tracking expiring titles on Paramount+ for more than a year on the Prime Video blog.
DeleteOn January 30, 2023 Paramount Global announced their plans to merge Paramount+ and Showtime into a single service called Paramount+ with Showtime. For now each streaming service can be subscribed to separately until the 3rd Qtr 2023 when they will be merged into one service. You can also subscribe to the Paramount+ Premium with Showtime Bundle now for a reduced rate. Is that what you have?
When I go to the Paramount Plus homepage [ https://www.paramountplus.com/ ]
I just see Babylon and Top Gun: Maverick are available there.
When I go to the Showtime homepage [ https://www.sho.com/ ]
it shows Everything Everywhere All at Once is available there.
It also shows Marcel the Shell with Shoes On is available there.
I confirmed all of these movies on the JustWatch.com Oscars website, too.
Thanks for creating this one place Oscars page with all the movies sorted by streaming service. It's been a big help.
DeleteI'm not sure what I have, Larry. :-) My access to Paramount+ / Showtime is on Roku, where everything is on Paramount+. The account belongs to my housemate, so I don't know exactly how it is set up.
Thanks for laying out what people can find on the 2 websites. That will help everybody find what they need according to the platform they're using to watch. I did see that both websites offer free trials, so that's a good thing.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Yahoo, Avatar: The Way of Water will be available to buy or rent on March 28.
https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/watch-oscars-2023-best-picture-nominee-today-131233490.html
ReplyDeleteThe list now denotes Oscar winners.
ReplyDeleteThe Whale is now available to rent for $4.99.
ReplyDeleteHaven't been keeping up this page (too busy), but Living - starring Bill Nighy in his Oscar nominated role for Best Actor - is coming to Netflix on June 5. Rotten Tomatoes score =
Critics: 96% positive reviews --- Audience: 84% positive reviews
I haven't seen "Living", but it may be a reason to see if I can get another free trial on Netflix (it has been over three years since the last one).
DeleteI have seen the film the film it is based on, "Ikiru" by Akira Kurosawa 1952. Ikiru is my personal favorite Kurosawa film. It is also highly regarded by critics, ranked 157 on Sight and Sound's 2022 Critics poll and 109 on TSPDT.
Ikiru is available on Criterion.
