Hey, angry subscriber here. Can anyone tell me when season one of Backstage expired??? The TITLE expires later this month. Was dismayed to discover this morning that Season 1 is already gone. I positively HATE when they do that! Anyone out there know what date Season 1 left? And was it announced here and I just overlooked it?

DeleteI feel your pain, KK, and am so sorry this happened to you. Of all the things Netflix does that irritate me, this one is the worst. Season 1 was last day July 14 (per New on Netflix USA). It was not on our list. Here's why:
When only some seasons of a series are expiring, there's no availability notice on My List. The only way to tell if a season (but not the whole series) is expiring is to watch an episode from that season, and - at the very beginning of the episode - look in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. You can check this on Portlandia. The first 5 seasons are expiring, the last 3 are not.
This has happened a number of times. The only way to avoid it is to check one episode of every season of every series you don't want to miss. You would have to do this on a regular basis. You can imagine how much tedious time you would have to spend to stay on top of it, which is why we're not able to do that here.
We know about Portlandia because it was included in the Netflix press release, but they don't always let us know when this is going to happen.
Again, I'm sorry you missed Season 1 of Backstage. You can certainly contact Netflix, and let them know how you feel about this policy, but I don't hold out a lot of hope that they'll change it. Another thing you can do is go to New on Netflix USA or uNoGS (links are in the sidebar), and find out when series/seasons were added, then watch the ones that have been on the longest first. It's not a guarantee, but might help.
I'm on Season 2 of Portlandia but I'm not seeing any notices. Has anyone else tried it?

DeleteI just checked all 8 seasons of Portlandia. Seasons 1-5 all have the notice; 6-8 do not, so the status has not changed. If you don't see a notice, it's probably because:
> it isn't the first time you've watched an episode in that season for that day. One way to double-check is to change profiles, and then watch an episode.
> sometimes the notice just barely flashes on - so briefly it's easy to miss, and even if you see it flash, you don't have time to read it. Again, try another profile to see if the notice stays the usual 1-2 seconds.
I changed profiles and I do see the notices now. I checked several seasons and they were all there. I wonder if it makes a difference on how you open the episode. I usually just click the play button from my list and it immediately starts playing right where I left off. I made it a point to watch for the notice when I opened the first episode today but still missed it. Maybe I was just too slow (which is entirely possible) or maybe the notice only shows up with a "hard start." I'll try it again tomorrow I guess.
Deleteit's the hard start. someone else was posting about this on one of these pages as well some time back. i had also resumed an episode that day, and it would seem the notice doesn't go up then even though it's a new day. add to that that the notices do go by quickly; i usually see "tv-14" because it's first and seems to be there regardless of the episode already being in progress. finally, this show doesn't start with credits or a recap, it just goes right into the funnies, so who wants to look at the top left of the screen for 30 seconds? :)

Netflix doesn't make this one easy to figure out. First, there isn't an availability notice on any of the possible seasons. Since the last day is less than a month away, there should be.
I think we can eliminate Sword Art Online Alternative as a possibility. It was added February 1, 2019, so it's unlikely it would be last day October 8.
So, now we're left with a real head-scratcher. The two seasons of Sword Art Online are listed on the Episodes page as "Sword Art Online" and "Sword Art Online II." The press release lists "Sword Art Online II: Season 1" as expiring. Can I get a "Huh?"
The history on New on Netflix USA lists the add dates as:
06/15/2019: 1 Season (2012)
09/09/2019: 2 Seasons (2014)
Even though it was just added, my best guess is that the season titled Sword Art Online II is the one leaving. Unless it gets renewed. Or all of this is just another Netflix messed up, messy mess. Stay tuned - I'll keep looking for an availability notice.
Another reason we can eliminate "Sword Art Online Alternative" is it would be showing a date on My List, since it's just one season, and it's not.

DeleteThanks for letting us know, Brian. I put a note on the title (last day 10/18), and changed the season info to be correct.
I strongly urge anyone who doesn't want to get caught in the sneaky expiration of seasons on different days to regularly keep an eye on each season of shows you don't want to miss. Although we all do our best to give everyone the most complete and accurate info, checking every season of all expiring shows is too time-consuming to do on a regular basis. Consequently, sometimes a series will be on our list, and not show that there are different last days for some of the seasons. I apologize for this inaccuracy, and really wish Netflix would put all of these on their press releases so we didn't keep getting these frustrating surprises.

DeleteI did a search for "Disney Movies" and checked everything that came up. There are a few more leaving at month-end, but certainly not everything (whew!). It's a good idea to keep an eye on them, though. Thanks for asking about this, Anonymous.

DeleteDarn - that is a let-down! At least you've lived and learned, and know when it's the real thing or not. It would be nice if those people would credit our site and give a link, but I'm glad that some people who don't know about us still get the info we work hard to deliver. Maybe I shouldn't have been so quick to accuse them of lifting our list, because there is one stray 10/31 title we don't have, "Forest." I can't find it on the site however, though there's a French Netflix Original mini-series called "The Forest."

DeleteThe mini-series "The Forest" has no availability notification, nor do either of two movies with the word "forest" in the title, so no idea what that's doing on the plagiarized list. That list had to come from our site, because there are other films that we haven't found yet. Someone else coming up with the exact same titles we have would be impossibly coincidental. While I find it annoying that they don't do us the courtesy of giving us credit, I'm glad we're helping more people to not miss movies.

I THINK this was just a very weird month when we already had all the press-release titles, so it appeared we were being ripped off! Good for us.
It looks like the list that was plagiarized was from What’s On Netflix which in the past has lifted a number of titles from your blog, Carol. The list at What’s On Netflix has a reference to Forest (2014) without indicating whether Forest is a movie or a series. I can’t find anything on the Netflix site that has a 2014 date. The series The Forest has one season, 2017.

DeleteThe Mary Sue credits its information to a site called Hypebeast. The info on Hypebeast (both coming and going) is identical to the info on What’s on Netflix. I don’t think the Netflix press release is out yet.
DeleteGood catch, I didn't see that. Hypebeast seems to be a well-known menswear site with over 8 million Instagram followers. It's hard to believe they'd say "Netflix has announced its programming slate for November 2019" and it not be the press release, but we shall see!

They (and all of us) should be pumped, and a little pleased with ourselves that we know where the real deal is - none of this baloney Forest business. ;-)
