Expired Titles: November 2015

This page will no longer be updated. It serves as the archive for titles that expired in November 2015, as well as special info that was posted during that month.

Will "The West Wing" Fly or Roost? (posted 11/28/15)
We all know that any show can be saved from expiring by last-minute contract negotiations, but not all are. Exstreamist.com seems to believe that for The West Wing, renewal is a certainty, and they have told everyone there is nothing to worry about in an article posted on November 27.

I hope exstreamist is right, and that The West Wing will stay for at least another year, but nothing in their article comes anywhere close to convincing proof. They quote anonymous Netflix sources as saying things like, "will very likely reach a new contract." That doesn't sound like a guarantee to me. The article also refers to the recent press release of expiring titles for December, and notes that The West Wing was not on it. The Netflix list had 55 titles. Our list has more than 150 titles expiring in December, so clearly, the press release wasn't comprehensive, which blows up the theory that because it wasn't in the press release, it's not leaving.

Followers with an interest in The West Wing will have to decide how much faith they have in exstreamist. Skeptic that I am, I'll believe the show is here to stay when I see the "Available until" message come off the series info page. I'll be checking for that every day.

Update as of December 15: The West Wing has been renewed.

Notes on Some Confusing Issues: The Netflix press release of titles expiring in December, which includes those that have a last day to watch of Nov. 30, came out several days ago. Please note the following information.

The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes - 2 Seasons
Press release indicates
Season 1: "Available until" Dec. 1
Season 2: "Available until" Dec. 11
Netflix site indicates
Both seasons are combined under one title, which has an "Available until" date of Dec. 11.
As of 12/1, Season 1 has expired.
Season 2 expired on Dec. 11.

Ultimate Spider-Man - 3  2 Seasons
Press release indicates
Season 2: "Available until" Dec. 10
No mention of Seasons 1 or 3
Netflix site indicates
All three seasons are combined under one title, which has NO "Available until" date.
According to New on Netflix
Season 3 (called Web Warriors) was just added on Nov. 23.
Seasons 1 & 2 were added at the same time, in Sept. 2014.
Source: http://usa.newonnetflix.info/info/70237227/s
The latest news
As of 11/28, Season 1 has disappeared without any warning.
Season 2 expired on Dec. 10.
The Web Warriors season is still streaming.

I'm not sure what to make of this inconsistent information for both series, but wanted you to know what the possibilities are if you're making a decision about what and when to watch. I felt duty-bound to check with Netflix customer service, but unshockingly, they knew nothing.

Unconfirmed Expiration Dates
Una Noche has been confirmed as last day to watch 12/23.

Bronies (12/29) is not on the dvd side, so I cannot confirm it is expiring until the streaming side puts up the one-week notice. If anyone else has advance info from a device or app, please let us know. Otherwise, we'll just have to trust the Netflix press release info.

Dates are the last day to watch, so they will be one day earlier than the "Available Until" date given by Netflix.

Note: Bolded titles indicate high approval from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

  1. I missed your post earlier, but Meet the Browns is still fixing to expire on October 31.

    1. Brian I'm not sure many people saw this, I only caught it a few days ago myself, but on David's final post you announced that you've started your own Netflix blog that also covers expirations. Between Carol's and yours it's now an embarrassment of riches.

    2. BTW I didn't mean for "an embarrassment of riches" to imply anything negative, it's just an expression that came to mind. Google says it means "too much of a good thing" and I certainly don't think that.

    3. Thank you so much for catching this, and letting me know, Brian. It was not listed as expiring on the movie page earlier today - when all the other titles not only had their movie pages updated, but also showed the expiration date on My List. Meet the Browns still doesn't have an expiration date on My List, but does show it now on the movie page. From now on, I'll wait a full day before jumping to conclusions. Thanks again!

    4. I just checked again, and now it IS on My List, too.

    5. Carol: It's quite alright. I checked on the DVD section of Netflix where I have an account and the date was showing. I was hoping that this was like The Inbetweeners where I'd be wrong the next day and the other person would be right about it being renewed.

Will G: I get what you're saying. And it's a good thing that we have dedicated people like Carol, myself, MaFt over at New on Netflix, etc. to help out those looking to organize queues and know when to watch something before it goes away. Hopefully, we can keep Netflix honest and cause them to be more upfront about when films/TV shows will go away.

  2. I'm not 100% positive, but I believe 'Alexander' has been replaced with a different cut of the same film, so it may have disappeared from some peoples' lists, but remains on Netflix.

  3. Thanks for the heads-up, Tim. Looks like you're right. The theatrical cut was added on Oct. 2, the Ultimate Edition was just added yesterday, Oct. 29 (Info is from New on Netflix.) I clicked on the theatrical cut version on the New on Netflix site, where it still shows as available to watch, and it took me to the Netflix page for it, but there was no option for watching or adding to My List. Wasn't able to access that page from the Netflix search box.

Looks like Netflix is making the switch behind the scenes. I'd be interested to know what, if anything, users noticed on their My List page. Or if the theatrical cut is gone for good, or just temporarily out of service. It would be nice to have a choice. The theatrical cut is already 3 hours long; Ultimate Edition is another half hour.

    1. Apparently the Ultimate Edition is the only one streaming. According to the DVD section, Alexander the Theatrical Cut isn't streaming currently.

  4. This morning I looked at the "coming to Netflix" titles on Brian's blog: http://netflixqueuebusters.blogspot.com/2015/10/coming-to-netflix-october-2015.html

Two of the titles that were added October 1 are already gone:
    Anna and the King (1999)
Around the World in 80 Days (2004)

    1. The Around the World in 80 Days version that was added on October 1 was the 1956 David Niven Oscar® winner. It's still streaming.

  5. Well, I'm not sure what's going on with Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns, but it's still available to stream - even though it says "Availability - Until 11/1/2015." I just hit the play arrow, and up it started. I'm not going to show it as renewed unless it's still there tomorrow. It might just be on delay, as it was about showing the expiration date in the first place. But if you want to see it, you at least have a reprieve for now.

    1. It may have just taken a little longer because Meet the Browns isn't streaming anymore. There are 3 titles with that name that are all Disc Only.

    2. Thanks Jordan. I hope Netflix doesn't make a habit of doing this delay thing - it's confusing.

It looks like the DVD site has removed the expiration dates as well, unless I'm missing something. :(

    1. Hi AK - the dvd site still shows expiration dates (thank goodness!). If you look up some of the other movies people have submitted today, you'll see the "until" dates. I think the confusion may be coming from the fact that the title you mention is not on the dvd site. There's another Pope Pius XII movie that comes up there, but it's different from the one you list. If I'm not understanding you correctly let me know.

  9. November 21:

    Machete Kills (2013)
    Meeting Evil (2012)

Also, I give a strong recommendation to catch The Invisible War before it expires. It's really good at making you think about what you would do if you were in the subject's situations and make you think twice before sending your children off to boot camp. It'll make you sad and angry, deservedly so.

I have copied your comment, and pasted it - with a response - on the Discussions & Ideas page, which you can access on the Pages Bar at the top of the blog, directly beneath the title banner. That way, others can weigh in on the subject without interrupting the flow of additions to the expiring list. Thanks!

    1. This is a crowdsourced list: what you see comes from contributors (like you) who are sharing what we know of so far. The most complete list I've seen shows up at http://unogs.com/countrydetail/?q=&cl=78,&pt=stats&st=&p=1 as expiration dates become visible; you'll see such dates in your Netflix "My List" for titles you've added to your own queue, a month in advance for movies but only one week in advance for movies. Some contributors here see expiration dates in their queues with a bit more lead time, usually if they also subscribe to Netflix DVD or Roku. Given all that, the expiration list in this blog approaches "everything" one week before the end of the month, so you may want to get a jump on watching interesting titles before then.

    2. Not quite sure what you're asking, Seth. There are currently 42 movies listed above for the last day to watch of November 30. Those are the ones we know about, so far. But we've got a couple weeks to go, and we'll most likely find more for that date, so can't promise that is a complete list now. Keep checking back for more updates.

      Delete
    3. Thanks Linklisa. I was counting while you were typing, and didn't check for new replies before I entered mine.

One small note for Seth & other readers: The one month in advance notice is for TV series, like The Guardian. Movies get only a week's notice.

      Delete
    4. I movies that expire on November 30th. just to make sure no surprises leave Netflix.

      Delete
    5. Since Netflix doesn't share this information freely, there will always be surprises. Sometimes titles disappear with no warning at all. The best you can do is to watch what interests you in advance of the expiration dates you know about, and anticipate a bit more lead time for those at the end of the month, since that's when the bulk of Netflix contracts end and there will always be more additions to lists like this in the last week.

      Delete
    6. For many of the Netflix apps on TVs, Bluray players and other devices, Netflix usually gives two weeks notice for both movies and TV shows. E.g. the titles with 11/30 as the last day showed up on my TV on 11/17. However the ones I noticed were already listed on Carol's site.

The folks who have a DVD subscription (I don't) can get up to a month's notice on both movies and shows.
