  1. want to know if something you're interested in is expiring? first, check for yourself. instructions:

still think it might expire soon even without an expiration date posted anywhere? there's no way any of us would know more about that than you would. you should see if there is an anniversary coming up from when it was most recently added if you want to feel more prepared as that anniversary approaches:
    http://unogs.com/

seen some bad expiration date news or just have a favorite show or movie and want to say oh, no, please don't remove that title you're interested in? as the banner above points out, this site is not run by netflix, it's run by unpaid volunteer netflix users just like you. if you really want to express your views to netflix, contact them:
https://help.netflix.com/en/contactus (tip: if you sign out, you can use the chat)
or rather effectively on twitter @netflix and @Netflixhelps
they also recommend customers use this link to request new titles, but there's nothing to stop you from requesting existing or recently removed titles be renewed (although i would guess this is much less effective than the above):
    https://help.netflix.com/en/titlerequest

have an opinion on something expiring? there's a dedicated page for that:
    http://expiringonnetflix.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html

netflix sends media outlets a highly curated, highly abbreviated list of upcoming removals and additions about three weeks into every month. it is not published on netflix.com and is never complete despite being mindlessly reported as "everything" leaving or arriving that month. the readers of this blog are very quick to share any new information from these press releases, making right here the definitive resource. you don't have to worry about missing out on what is expiring.

netflix originals, despite the name, can expire and have expired. you can wax poetic about that here:
    http://expiringonnetflix.blogspot.com/p/discussions_26.html

My List acting up again or have questions about it? as well as recent comments appropriately placed in the above link, there is still a page up all about this part of netflix:
    http://expiringonnetflix.blogspot.com/p/discussion-new-my-list-format.html

have some info about a streaming service other than netflix? share it here:

  3. There are a lot of blank days on the list this month. For anyone wondering, uNoGS.com has posted everything leaving through last day July 21. Everything they have is on our list. There are no movies or shows for last day 7/16, 7/19, 7/20, and 7/21. For the days after that, we will undoubtedly be getting more titles as the month goes on.

  7. I think Season 4 of The Killing may not be leaving. I've been watching the entire series and I was getting the "This show available until August 1" mention at the start until I got to Season 4. This is the Netflix-produced season, so that would make sense. However, I don't trust Netflix enough to fully commit to that assumption, so I'm going to finish watching it anyway. It's only 6 episodes long.

  9. All titles above have been added to the master list. Titles in comments below will be added with the next full update.

I apologize for not getting this done yesterday as I planned. I was away from home, and didn't get back until much later than anticipated. I also didn't have access to an app with the two-week expiration notice, so wasn't able to check for 7/31 titles.

Yay to those contributors who came through with 7/31 titles, so we can have something to get started on. I'll look for more later on today.

    1. The 40-Year-Old Virgin was on my DVD queue and, last week, a blue Play button popped up next to it, so I added it to my streaming MyList. If it was added in mid-July and it’s expiring on 8/15, it seems that Netflix is getting it for only one month. Could this be true?

      Delete

    2. Hi CanandaiguaNY, according to uNoGS.com, The 40-Year-Old Virgin was added to Netflix streaming on May 16, 2018, which would mean it had a 3-month contract. From reading the DVD page on this blog, it sounds like that site isn't exactly a well-oiled machine. Maybe it took them a couple months to activate the Play button?

      Delete
    3. this is really outside of the scope of listing expiring titles, but don at "dvd.com" mentioned something to me on the phone this week about a play button being a recent and potentially controversial change on the web site. i didn't know what he meant since i still saw them, but maybe it relates to delays. i can tell you i've seen that particular title prominently displayed in the netflix app and streaming web site since may. 3 months is standard for years-old, big studio movies.

  13. Please note: Some of the series on the press release indicated fewer seasons expiring than what is shown on the Netflix site. Because these series are already on our list, they were not listed in will g's comment (except The Killing). Below, I have indicated in bold what the press release said, followed by the number of seasons currently streaming, and the number of seasons that have the "Available until" notice.

Perhaps the discrepancy is because some seasons will be renewed, but just haven't been updated yet. But it could also be that Netflix wasn't careful in preparing the press release. I will keep an eye on all of these, and will include notes with the titles on the master list.

    7/31
The Killing: Seasons 1-3 - Streaming: seasons 1-4; Availability notice on all 4

    8/15
The Adventures of Chuck & Friends: Season 2 - Streaming: seasons 1-2; Availability notice on both
Littlest Pet Shop: Seasons 2-4 - Streaming: seasons 1-4; Availability notice on all 4
Transformers Prime: Seasons 2-3 - Streaming: seasons 1-3; Availability notice on all 3
Transformers: Rescue Bots: Seasons 2-4 - Streaming: seasons 1-4; Availability notice on all 4

  14. Started watching "13 Assassins" before it expires on 8/4, and noticed Netflix's print is missing 22 minutes from the running time of the theatrical release. Pass.

    1. The version on Amazon is 6 minutes longer, but still mysteriously truncated.

      Delete
    2. The Amazon version is the correct one. That is the International Cut which is what was distributed worldwide. Only Japan got the full 141 version. I guess you could get the Japanese DVD but it probably won't be subtitled if that is a problem. It is odd that Netflix is missing 6 minutes and makes me wonder what was cut.

      Delete
    3. The New York Times review says 2 hours and 21 minutes, so that's at least the version that played in New York. IMDb says the same thing.

      Delete

    4. Under "Technical Specs" on the IMDb page, it says:
      Runtime: 141 min / 126 min (International)

From what I could find, there doesn't seem to be a dvd of the Japanese version with English subtitles or dubbed. I suspect reviewers saw the International version, doubt they timed it themselves, and the runtime published in the Times was taken from press materials that were based on the original Japanese cut. It sounds like the Amazon version is the best we can do.

A comparison of the two versions is at: https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=212290

    5. What a mess. Turns out rklenseth was absolutely correct, so apologies for my curt reply. The NYT was very careless in publishing that running time, but if that's what the press materials said, shame on the distributor too.

    6. BTW according to a comment on that article Carol linked, the 6-minute discrepancy on Netflix is because the film is SPED UP, making it difficult to watch. Again, pass.

  15. As of today, all four seasons of The Killing have gone, despite the press release specifying only seasons 1-3. For the future, when deciding what to believe, I think we should put more faith in the "Available until" dates on the shows than in what the press release says. I'll continue to make notes about any discrepancies and watch for changes in the information on the Netflix site.

  16. I'm not sure if this is the place to post this or if the article refers to just the UK version of Netflix but I thought I'd bring this to everyone's attention just in case it also refers to the US version.

ITV (which sells Broadchurch and Marcella among other British shows) to Netflix is pulling their shows in preparation for launching their own streaming service along with BBC. So if you have any British shows in your streaming queue it's probably best to watch them soon while you can.

    1. Luke, ITV plans to take the rights back in the UK to shows that it owns that currently stream on Netflix UK. Those shows will stream in the UK on a streaming service co-owned by the BBC, ITV and UK’s Channel Four. Interestingly, ITV and BBC own Britbox, which currently streams British programs in the US but not the UK. There appears to be no discussion (yet) of moving shows like Broadchurch or Marcella from Netflix US to Britbox. I don’t think there are a lot of ITV shows streaming currently on Netflix US. There are a lot more on Hulu.
