The Silence (2015)
Note for The Silence: A search for this title brings up three results. The 2019 Stanley Tucci film is not expiring. The other two results are the same movie, but in different languages. Both of them are expiring. The link here will take you to the one with the 2015 year, which is in Marathi. The 2017 version is Hindi. Both have English subtitles. Note that the 2015 choice shows a run-time that is one minute longer than what the 2017 result shows. That probably doesn't mean anything, but wanted to point it out.
Sleepover (2004)
Solo (Tamil Version) (2017)
Note for Solo: There are two movies with this title. The one expiring is the Indian drama, not the Spanish Netflix Film.

The Universe is ending 1/23
ReplyDeleteWell, this is certainly big news. Guess we've only got 5 more days to binge watch all the Netflix content we can!
Deletelmao....couldn't resist, first contributing post - and expiration sighting/discovery! My computer-browser doesn't show expiration date, but I downloaded episode of The Universe to my phone so I could play as background noise while I drove. Noticed it said it was expiring 1/23. And glad I did cuz that show is on my list! So in a small way, yes, The Universe really is ending, unfortunately. Probably something to do with Joe Biden inauguration tomorrow... eeks...
Delete
DeleteGood news, everybody - The Universe is not ending after all! And the series isn't expiring, either.
Unknown, the 1/23 date you are seeing is the expiration date for your download. But the series will still be streaming on Netflix. Good joke, though.
Ooh I didn't know that, makes sense. Thanks!
DeleteFYI - There are two different titles on Netflix. (1) The Universe and (2) The Universe Ancient Mysteries Solved. A comparison of episode titles against IMDB shows them to be Seasons 2 & 8 of "The Universe" respectively. On a side note, Season 1 of the same series IS expiring on Amazon Prime. I don't say much, but what I do say is fringe. ;)
Delete
DeleteThanks fubar61 - I can now honestly say I know everything there is to know about The Universe.
2/23/21
ReplyDeleteDhobi Ghat (Mumbai Diaries) (2010)
2/26/21
Night Comes On (2018)
2/28/21
28 Days (2000)
An Interview With God (2018)
Don Verdean (2015)
The Silence (2017)
Wakefield (2016)
Of note, I can now see "Last day to watch on Netflix: Month Day" notices 30 days in advance (i.e., today is 30 days in advance of 2/28, including both today and 2/28) on the information page for each show across all my platforms (iphone app, firetv app, browser window). So at least there's no more need to start playing the show to find the expiration date.
DeleteThanks Michelle.
Everyone: The only app I have is on my smart TV, and I still have to play the movie to see the "Last day to watch" notice - both with just the smart TV app, and also using Roku. It doesn't show up anywhere on the website on my laptop - either on the info page or My List (I use Chrome). I'm not technically-minded at all, so maybe someone(s) out there who has a good understanding of the various devices/apps could help us understand where this change can be found, and where it's not yet showing without playing. Thanks!
it will not list "Last day to watch on Netflix" if a multiseason series is partly expiring or all seasons expiring on different dates.
Deleteit does not list more than a week out for movies/single-episode shows on My List in a browser.
it does not list the dates just browsing the homepage without clicking anything.
however, if you click onto the aforementioned "information page for each show" (etc.), it will list it, even more than a week out. the screen will pop out, and the URL will be https://www.netflix.com/browse?jbv=a number.
my device listed these one-month expiration dates starting this week. all i had to do was scroll through My List, and it listed it near the title. i didn't have to do anything else. given that support for my device has been all but abandoned, this will be a universal change, so look for it, slightly different, everywhere.
Netflix, IMDB & Wikipedia all list Silence as 2019 vs 2017.
Delete
DeleteThank you Travis. I was wrong - the "last day" notice is indeed on the info page on my computer and on my smart TV. I was looking in the wrong place - it used to be at the bottom of the page in both cases, but now, as you say, it's up by the title. This is a huge improvement and benefit for the likes of us. Thanks again to you, too, Michelle, for letting us all know about this.
It looks like there are actually 3 movies called The Silence currently on Netflix. The one that I had on my list, which is expiring 2/28, is an Indian movie in Hindi from 2017. However, it looks like there is an earlier/2015 Indian/Hindi movie called The Silence, which is also expiring on 2/28, so that is very good to know. The 2019 Netflix film with Stanley Tucci doesn't appear to be expiring.
Delete
DeleteRe: The Silence:
Michelle is right that 3 movies come up if you search for The Silence, and that the years are
2015, 2017, and 2019. However, the 2015 and 2017 movies are the same movie, even though they have different posters, different years, and different Netflix identifying numbers. Good one, Netflix!
IMDbd lists the year for this film as 2015, so I'm going to use that year, but you can watch the 2017 one if you prefer. I only watched the first couple of minutes of each one to make sure they were the same. The stated run times differ by one minute, but I don't have time to watch both all the way through to make sure they are 100% identical, so do what you think is best.
Thanks for figuring out the duplicates, Carol. Netflix is crazy-making!
DeleteFor what it's worth, the 2015 film uses the Marathi language and the 2017 film uses the Hindi language. But I agree that it's confusing considering it's the same cast/director and similar runtimes.
Delete
DeleteThanks for catching this, Brian - I didn't notice the language difference when I was looking at the info pages. I'm glad to know there's some sense to having both, and I'll put a note about it on the list.
Great page, but text in the comments is tiny. No matter what I adjust in my browser/monitor, it remains microscopic. Is there any way you can make it more readable?
ReplyDelete
DeleteI'll check into that, Anonymous, and get back to you. It's been so long since I created the blog, I don't remember if that was an option. It's not something I can easily do now. On my computer, if I press ctrl and the plus sign key, that makes the page bigger, including the type. Have you tried that? Anyone else know of easy ways to make the type appear larger?
I'm using FireFox v85.0, and under the \View\Zoom menu, there is a "Zoom Text Only" option. Once you click that, you can click the "Zoom In" option until the text is the size you like, then unclick the "Zoom Text Only" option. I assume the setting is saved in a cookie, so the text size should stay the same whenever you return to this site (unless you delete the cookie). Other browsers probably have a similar feature.
DeleteThanks billions! Both of those suggestions worked. :)
Delete
DeleteGreat - I'm glad there was an easy solution. I wasn't able to find a way to actually change the type size for comments on the blog, so it's good that we can do it ourselves.
Has Bates Motel been renewed? I'm not seeing an expiration notice today.
ReplyDeleteI take that back. It's not showing an expiration on My List anymore, but when I open it the notice is there.
Delete
DeleteBates Motel still shows the availability notice on my My List, so not sure why it's not on yours. Maybe check again. In any case, all 5 seasons are still scheduled for last day 2/19.
Something is up. I too now no longer see expiration dates on "My List" when using a web browser. I've checked using multiple different browsers.
DeleteSame - put it in My List and no availability notice - however I pressed play and got the notice. Hope this is just a glitch.
DeleteExpiration dates on My List just disappeared for me also.
DeleteLooks like Netflix and Amazon are both adopting the tactic of making expiration dates more and more difficult to find. Someone may have to do what was done for Amazon Prime and create a Tampermonkey script that finds and displays the dates, if it's even possible in this case.
Delete"never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."
DeleteChecked my list and expiration dates are also missing today.
DeleteAlso, oddly, "Me and the Alien" was already in my list a couple of days ago but not showing an expiration date until I removed it and then added it back in.
DeleteThis is not good news. PunkinheadDelux, looks like you were one of the first to have your My List changed. I'm wondering if they're planning to do away with the manual My List altogether. It's becoming steadily less and less useful. Dang!
A number of World War II documentaries, including The Negro Soldier, that used to appear on Netflix under their own names have been consolidated into a new title—Five Came Back: The Reference Films

Chappelle’s Show—2 seasons (2005) has returned to Netflix. You may remember that Dave Chappelle had asked Netflix to remove the series because he was not being paid any royalties by Comedy Central or its parent, Viacom, which they did. (HBO MAX also later removed the show from its streaming platform.) Apparently, Viacom cut a very large check to Chappelle as an apology. In return, Chappelle thanked Netflix publicly. No word on whether Netflix had to pay for the show twice.
ReplyDeleteExpire dates for Always a Bridesmaid, The Oustider, November Criminals, Tortilla Soup, Rattle the Cage, The Young Offers are all the dates NF states as "Last day to watch on Netflix" rather than the 1 day earlier we use. Unless something has changed with NF.
ReplyDeleteScroll up.
Delete
DeleteIn response to the first Anonymous - yes, something has changed with Netflix. It used to be that the only date NF ever gave us was the actual expiration date - the date the show would be gone at the stroke of midnight when that date began. The NF verbiage was, "available until." We wanted to be sure readers had a chance to watch the show before it left, so we used the date prior to the NF "available until" date, so that our date was "the last day to watch." NF still uses the "available until" date in some places.
Netflix just recently began to use "Last day to watch" dates, which is the same as the date we've always used, so we don't subtract a day from those. In conclusion: If it says, "last day to watch," we will use that date. If it says, "available until," we will use the day before. I know this is a little confusing, but rest assured, getting the date right so that our master list always has the true last day to watch, is something I triple-quadruple check. Of course, if Netflix pulls the show before they said they would, or it gets renewed, our dates turn out to be wrong, but we can't know about that until it happens. Hope this clears things up for you.
anyone else unable to see the expiration date on the far right of the my list page as of last week?
ReplyDeleteyes, there's a discussion about it on the Discussions & Ideas: Current page with a suggestion on how to voice our concerns through twitter.
DeleteSo far, I just see the one tweet on #FixMyList my wife left on Feb. 11. Would appreciate anyone else who could tweet as well for support - I think we all know that Netflix ignores one-off complaints.
DeleteOn the positive side, it's a pain-in-the-butt, but when I click each individual movie (not series) on my laptop, instead of getting only a one week expiration notice, I appear to now be getting a 1 month notice. Anyone else notice that?
yes, that's covered above, January 30.
Deletei agree, tweet #fixmylist, describe the problem, and mention @netflix, @wearenetflix, @NetflixEng, @NetflixUIE, @netflixqueue, and more. go nuts.
Well, that was exhausting. Had to individually click on each title in my list. But I found a couple more expiring titles.

DeleteThank you for sharing your efforts, William. That goes for all our contributors, as well. We get between 1000-1500 page views a day, and the work you all do is the reason why.
Does netflix no longer do the two week expiration notice anymore? Is the only way to see whats expiring to play each video to see if a notice pops up?
Delete
DeleteHi Seth, I've got bad news and better news. The My List page no longer shows any "available until" notices. We don't know if this is permanent or some kind of programming glitch that will get fixed. Most of us fear the worst.
The better news is that you don't have to play the video and look for the pop-up notice. You can click on any title - either on your My List or on the poster if you do a search. Clicking on the title will bring up the info/details page for that show. Look right beneath the picture, and the second line will have a "Last day to watch" notice if the show is expiring. It's still kind of a nuisance, but better than having to click play and hope you catch any notice.
DeleteOops, sorry Seth, I gave you the wrong instructions. Don't click on any poster - not on My List or on Search results. On My List, click on the title. On a search results, hover over the poster so that you see the little box with icons in circles (play, add, thumbs up or down), and choose the icon at the far right which is a down-pointing arrow. Then the info/details page will open.
I don't have anything expiring on my list right now as most of it is netflix originals as the content netflx offers isn't very good anymore. Not as much as I care about as I like the non original content more than the original content. Hopefully we get the press release soon.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteThats annoying as I'm afraid that the very few non original movies on my list will expire without me knowing it. I wish they would still tell you when things are expiring. They don't want you to know that the very few non original moves they have left are leaving.
DeleteSeth, how do you stream? if it's on a tv and not through your computer, you can browse through My List on that and see whether anything is expiring in the next month. you don't have to open up every title on your computer or start playing all of them to see. it's actually pretty easy now, although they should still fix the listing on the website. my new routine is going to be checking after the 1st so it should show everything for that month.
Delete
DeleteThank you Travis! With all the recent changes, I hadn't yet noticed that Netflix has now added the Last Day to Watch to the info that appears when you arrow to a poster on your TV Netflix app (either a Smart TV or with Roku). For those who, like me, are still getting used to the new "Last Day to Watch" notices on NF, here's how to check your My List on the TV app:
1) When you sign on to NF, the Home page will open.
2) Move your curser to the left so that it is no longer on a poster, and you see the list of options:
Search
Home
New & Popular
TV Shows
Movies
My List
3) Arrow down and click on My List. This will open your entire My List so that all titles are visible by arrowing down/across each row.
4) As your curser lands on each poster, the details (title, year, length, etc.) for each title appear above it. It is not necessary to click on the poster.
5) If the title is expiring in the next 30 days, there will be a "Last Day to Watch" notice directly below the line with the year and length. The notice is in bold type, so it's easy to see.
6) If there isn't any notice, that means the title is not expiring within 30 days. Unless it's a series with only some seasons expiring. To discover those, you have to click on play for one episode of each season, and watch for an expiration notice at the top-left of the screen as the episode begins.
Good luck, and if you find something that's not already on our list or in comments, be sure to let us know!
that's what i said back on January 30 ("my device..."). for me, it was even easier than that, as My List is one of the rows in the home screen, usually near the top.
DeleteI mainly stream on my tv. I am always checking my list 2 weeks before the end of the month tp make sure that nothing is expiring unless that doesn't work anymore. I just want to know when something is expiring so I can watch it if I want to.
Deletenow when you scroll through My List on your tv it will show expiration dates any time in the next month. the only titles the press release should have are ones that expire in more than a month, ones you didn't know were streaming, and select seasons of tv series. i love the power glove... it's so bad.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteWeeds has 8 seasons. Is Season 8 not expiring? (Only 7 seasons mentioned in press release.)
DeleteSeason 8 isn't, if the press release is to be believed.
DeleteJust to be clear: Which are expiration dates, and which Last Day to Watch dates? (For example, Summer Night (2019) is "Last Day to Watch on Netflix: March 10" but Aftermath (2017) is "Last Day to Watch on Netflix: March 13")
Delete(From what I checked, the 3/14 entries are the only ones that would need an adjustment.)
DeleteRe: Questions about titles on the press release:
1) For those titles listed as 3/14 on the press release, I'm going to use the 3/13 date that is on the website. I'd bet it's the press release that's wrong, and, in any case, we're safe with the earlier date.
2) For Weeds, we should be able to see a notice on March 2. If there isn't one for the whole series, I'll check each season.
The correct link to the movie you list as Women At War 1939-1945 is on imdb.com at: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11549746/?ref_=nm_flmg_wr_4

Yu-Gi-Oh! - Season 3 (2005)
Note: Season 1 is also streaming, but not expiring. Season 2 is not streaming. Also, note that this is a separate show from Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V, which is last-day 3/31.
where can I go on netflix to see this? thanks for posting
Delete
DeleteWhen you play an episode of season 3, at the very beginning there will be a notice in the upper left corner of the screen that says, "This season is available until March 31." That means it will expire at the stroke of midnight when March 31 begins, so the last day to watch is March 30. This notice will only appear the first time you play an episode on any given day. If you want to see it again, you can change profiles, or check again on another day.
