ReplyDeleteRemoved without notice. I wasn't finished yet. :-(
DeleteThanks Dan. This seems a little weird because it was just added on Nov. 1 (according to New on Netflix USA). It must have either been added in error or deleted in error. Hopefully, it will be back.
The other weird thing is that the link to the title doesn't work. On the New on Netflix page (https://usa.newonnetflix.info/info/70142413), that's the link that is given, but when clicked on, just the Netflix Home page comes up. There's something hinky somewhere.
Dave Chappelle requested the show be pulled.

DeleteThanks Nica, that solves the mystery. I still feel bad for viewers who wanted to watch it.
It’s still streaming on CBS All Access and HBO Max.

ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving everyone!
Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy!
DeleteHappy Thanksgiving Carol and to all the great contributors to this blog!
DeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you as well, Carol. Thank you for all your hard work!
DeleteDoes anyone know if the office is leaving January 1st?
ReplyDeleteyes, if you look at first comment on this page Carol has it listed as leaving Jan 1st
DeleteI'm not entirely sure.
DeleteI checked UNoGs earlier today and it didn't show up. I checked on Netflix. No expiration date on the bottom and it doesn't pop up when playing an episode.
Somehow this might have been renewed?
DeleteI checked all nine seasons of The Office, and none of them have an expiration notice, so it must have been renewed (or the press release was wrong). Good catch, everybody.
Sorry, I don’t believe this. NBC issued a press release in July saying that Peacock was getting exclusive streaming rights in the US to The Office for 5 years beginning on January 1. They also paid $500 million for the rights. Peacock’s content (other than Parks & Recreation) is abysmal so I don’t see any upside to them sharing the rights. The Office is also consistently in Netflix’s top 10 TV shows in the US. If the show was somehow renewed by Netflix, I would think they would have said so in a press release or on their Twitter feed.

DeleteYou make a good argument, Wellesley72. I'm not sure where to come down on this one. I guess the safe thing to do is watch it if you don't want to miss it, but at almost 70 hours, that's a big investment, and there is an awful lot else expiring by month-end. My advice to everyone is to do what you think is best for you, just realize that it might go the other way.
I remember the Friends deal where they got one additional year was VERY last minute - if it expires as expected I'd love to know why it avoided the proper "available until" notice.
Deletelocal news has been reporting on it today like it was a surprise.

ReplyDeleteHi Everyone,
If you haven't noticed yet, there is a new feature on some of the Netflix apps. When you start to play a movie, there is an expiration notice in the top left corner of the screen. It tells you the last day to watch. I think it's there a month in advance - all the movies on our list for 12/31 have this notice now. It might only show the first time you play the movie. I'm still figuring out the rules. The app I use that has it is on my smart TV.
Following is the comment from Anonymous on 12/2 that first alerted us to this:
Anonymous December 2, 2020 at 1:50 AM
Testing new feature (on phone), it will say "Last day to watch on Netflix: (Month Name) (Last day to watch)"
For example:
12/31
3 Idiots (2009) (when you start watching on latest Android version, it will say "Last day to watch on Netflix: December 31")
and even more intensifying is that "Last day to watch on Netflix: DATE" is also surfaced when viewing the info.
DeleteThis is a nice feature but I don't want to have to click on each movie in my list to see what is expiring as that is a pain to do. Hopefully they start putting them back in my list like they used to do as I remember when movies in my list were marked as expiring at the beginning of the month so I was able to plan ahead and watch all of them.
DeleteAm I crazy all links to November's list disappeared?
ReplyDelete
DeleteRight now, the November titles are on the page for September/October - click on that link in the sidebar, or on "Older Post" in the bar below the comments, then scroll down until you come to the November titles.
For the future, here's how the archiving of expired titles works:
> The most recently expired titles are always on the post previous to the Current Expiring Titles.
> Eventually, expired titles are stored 2 months at a time. When I create the next new post (for January), November and December expired titles will have their own page.
The reason I do it this way is because - to be honest - it's easier for me, and saves me time. But I can understand your confusion, and apologize for it not being crystal clear. In any case, you're definitely not crazy. :- )
Despite Netflix continuing to screw up with no expiration notice, it's just been announced that "The Office" will indeed be streaming EXCLUSIVELY on Peacock starting on Jan. 1.
ReplyDeletehttps://variety.com/2020/digital/news/the-office-peacock-streaming-free-1234853111/
And Seasons 3-9 will be behind a paywall, so binge them now if you don't want to have to pay for them.
DeleteTold you so on 12/3. Comcast subscribers can go behind the “paywall” for free, although unless they upgrade to the ad-free version of Peacock, they will be watching with commercials. It will be interesting to see what kind of audience Peacock gets with ads. As a Comcast subscriber, I have a Peacock subscription but have not to date availed myself of it because the content is so bad (and there are commercials).
Deletenetflix is a paid service, will
DeleteLOL yep, I meant pay EXTRA. I assume everyone here is already paying for Netflix.
Delete12/31
ReplyDeleteThe Office (US)—9 seasons (2012) is now showing an expiration date.
DeleteThanks for staying on top of this, Wellesley72. I've updated The Office info on the master list.
so there's no more two week notice on movies on our actual lists anymore, i guess?
ReplyDelete
DeleteI'm not sure what you're looking at, Anonymous. You will see different information depending on what device and app you're using. Here are the three things I look at:
1. The manual My List on the Netflix website on my laptop. This showes an "Available until" date that equals 4 weeks for series and 1 week for movies (not 2 weeks). This has not changed for some time.
2. The Netflix app on my smart tv when I click on a movie or series to see the info. This shows an "Available until" date that equals 2 weeks for both series and movies. This has also not changed, EXCEPT for movies that have sequels also streaming (example: Back to the Future). In the space where there used to be the "Available until" notice, there is now a "Collection" that shows all movies in the series that are currently streaming. There is now no availability notice on the info page for movies that have the "Collection" feature.
3. The Netflix app on my smart tv when I click on a movie or series to play it. In the top left corner of the screen, there is now a notice that says "Last day to watch on Netflix: [date]." This appears to give 30 days notice for both series and movies. This is a new feature that just started this month. For movies that have the "Collection" feature, this is the only way to see if it is expiring on the smart tv app.
If you are looking at something else, let us know what device and app you are using, and what appears to have changed (give "before" and "now" info). Perhaps someone who also uses the same thing can shed some light.
I use the netflix app on my phone and it seems to be giving a month notice for both tv shows and movies when you click on it.

ReplyDeleteThank you all for your patience and understanding during this time of many, many new titles in the comments, and me with no available time to process them. I finally have a free day, and I hope to have everything fully updated by tomorrow morning.
I appreciate all of your hard work - rest well and happy Holidays!! :)
DeleteHeads Up... Although I haven't seen a notice here or on the app, the subreddit for the Showtime series Weeds has a post from a moderator saying Weeds is being removed at the end of the year.
ReplyDelete(And you may have noticed that long streaming Showtime series such as Dexter and The Tudors are indeed about to leave NF...)
I'm trying to get clarification / more info right now. But here's the thread in question:
https://www.reddit.com/r/WEEDS/comments/kdfl1j/remember_netflix_is_removing_weeds_at_the_end_of/
Hopefully we get some more info and a little notice...
Okay, it seems there may be -something- to this Weeds thing, but the title of that thread is perhaps a bit exaggerated...
ReplyDeleteThe moderator was taking their info from this article:
https://www.whats-on-netflix.com/leaving-soon/weeds-likely-leaving-netflix-us-in-2021/
Which says it's "likely" leaving "in 2021."
And they got their info from here:
https://deadline.com/2020/05/mad-men-nears-global-license-deal-lionsgate-cites-production-freeze-streaming-boom-drive-demand-netflix-1202941170/
So basically some time between January and March, Netflix's contract for Weeds should expire. However, there's still a chance they might elect to renew this one. Especially since a reboot of the series is currently in the works!
But that also means there's a good chance the IP holders will ask for more money this time around... So I guess we'll see how that plays out...
I'd still advise those who haven't seen it to get cracking. Even though the episodes are short, there are 100+ of them across 8 seasons, so a full series watch will likely take longer than a weekend or two... lol
Forgive me. I got lost in the Weeds.
ReplyDeleteHaha. I’m sure anyone who has it on their list appreciates the just in case heads up!
DeleteI see that "Mary Poppins Returns" is on the list for January. I recently re-watched "Mary Poppins" from Netflix DVD and watched "Mary Poppins Returns" for the first time from streaming Netflix. I have another Mary Poppins related title from Disney, "Saving Mr. Banks", that I've never seen before in My List in streaming Netflix. Will that one be staying past January? I thought all of the Disney titles were going to leave Netflix by the end of January 2021. In addition to "Saving Mr. Banks", I have at least one other Disney title in My List, "Walt Disney Automation Studios Short Films Collection".
ReplyDelete"Saving Mr. Banks" wasn't in the January press release, and they don't hold back in announcing Disney expirations, so I think it's staying put through January.
Delete
DeleteI don't think all Disney titles were supposed to leave by end of January - just those under a particular contract. Mary Poppins Returns is the last of that group. Neither of the two films you mention (Saving Mr. Banks and Short Films Collection) have an expiration notice when played, so they should be around until at least the end of January. Saving Mr. Banks was added to Netflix on March 1, 2019, so it might be leaving at the end of February, depending on how long it's contract is for. The Shorts Collection was added in October 2015, so it will probably be around for at least several more months. Unless someone has seen specific information, speculation based on when films were added is about the best we can do.

ReplyDeleteAmerican Assassin (2017)
NOTE: This morning, I reviewed around 100 of the shows in my queue for end-of-the-month expiration notices on screen when the show starts playing. The above is the only new one I found, which makes me wonder if we're getting 30 days notice (i.e., not quite 1 month notice). I plan to check again tomorrow and see if 1/31/21 expirations start showing up on shows I've already checked today...
Follow-up note: I realized I could test this theory now, and indeed, Employee of the Month, which is slated to expire on 1/31, does not yet show an expiration notice when played. So 30 days notice it is...
