  1. I am not happy about the way the "Comments" are behaving. First, it seems like every comment I leave takes a long (comparatively) time to Publish. Maybe it's only a few seconds longer, but I don't like having to wait to make sure my comment actually shows up. Much bigger complaint: the renewed problem of comments disappearing. I apologize if this has happened to you. It was a problem a while back (almost 2 years ago, I think), but seemed to get resolved. Now, it has reared its exasperating head again.

I looked into the problem the last time, and was told it's caused by cookies on the user's computer, but I had evidence that that wasn't what was happening. I'm convinced it's a bug in Blogger, and I'm hoping they sort it out soon. In the meantime, I will post any comment that is lost from the copy I get in my email. If I miss one of yours, please let me know, either in a comment or via email (my email address can be accessed from the sidebar, under Blog Administrator).

Thanks for "listening." This is just really bugging me, and I had to get it off my chest.

  2. Speaking of old problems reappearing, is anyone having a problem moving titles on MyList?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Hi Lee K, yes, another reader left the following comment on the "New Format for My List" page. I tried, and was able to move some titles, but it was not as smooth as it sometimes is.

    PunkinheadDelux January 12, 2018 at 11:26 AM

I can't seem to move any titles around today at all. It will let me add and delete titles, but when I click 'Move to Top' it suddenly refreshes and nothing happens. Is anyone else having an issue?

    1. I use Google Chrome on my desktop and keep My List in alphabetical order. For the past few days I've had trouble moving titles. What I've had to do is click out of My List to Home and then click back on My List and try again at which point the title finally goes where I want to move it.

      Delete
    2. this worked for me as well. i often visit My List via my browser history, and i was finding that i couldn't move titles lately. today i went through the main page, and it worked. dragging and dropping are even slower than usual because of the refreshes and the screen subsequently resetting to the top.

    3. Well, that's just weird. I generally open NF from a NewTab in Firefox where moving titles doesn't work, but if I follow Luke's work around it does work. That is, after a painfully slow page refresh. Thanks NF! Love that customer service..

      Delete
  4. That's what I'm getting, the sudden refresh and the title is back to the original position.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I'm still having the problem today too (Jan 15th 2018). I can add and delete titles, but I can't move to top. I gave up trying to drag and drop a long time ago.

  6. Hey, I know. Let's call Customer Service where everyday's a holiday. ROFLMAO.
If you have another machine, try moving the titles around on it. I have two machines running Firefox Quantum and it works on one and not the other. However, it is obvious they've changed something, because even on the machine where moving titles works, I can see the page awkwardly refreshing after each move and it takes several moves since I have more than 10 titles. <= The 10 titles was sarcasm btw, I have well over 100. Too bad they don't number them so we could say "move this to spot 152" like the DVD queue. Those were the days.

    ReplyDelete
  7. It looks like FireFox may be the problem, at least for me. I tried it on two different computers and it moved the first 5 or 6, then stopped working. I just now tried it in Google Chrome and it took extra long to refresh, but at least it worked. I recall this happened a while back and after about a week or two, it started working again.

    1. Same here with Firefox I will take a few seconds longer to post something but it does post.

      Delete
    2. When I signed on this morning on my desktop Mac, I got a "Firefox updating" message. On going to MyList, I see that I am now able to move titles, both by grabbing and by using the "move to top" button. After I move a title, the screen goes black for two seconds. then reloads with the title moved. So, this problem I've had for a few days is repaired.

More paid shills loving Notlix. Really you just added a David Letterman series where he looks like Santa and even that is MA rated.

Wait you just got rid of more licensed shows while Hulu and Amazon Prime just got a bunch and are adding more everyday. But it is okay you will show your ugly mug and more screenshots of those snot noise brats from Stupid Things.

Also no news on anything about Unfortunate Events from these paid shill NF sites maybe because it is one of those rare 5% originals that's rated TV-PG. Just a notice saying that it is coming back on March 30 2nd season when in the NF app.

Plenty on the next MA rated garbage "Everything sucks" well you suck NF. I rather watch real 90's shows the TGIF on Hulu when they did not drop the F bomb every other sentence and everyone could watch them.

  9. As of last night, the rankings section of the site which listed every title I had given a thumbs up or thumbs down to is empty, claiming that I haven't given a thumbs up or thumbs down to any title which is a lie. Now any title I gave a thumbs down to won't show up in any of the categories (TV shows etc) when I click on those categories. I did the clear cookies thing. Doesn't work. I called customer support (twice) and they were both utterly hopeless and offered no help whatsoever. This all happened as of last night. Anyone else have their rankings list wiped? Weirdly, on the other profile attached to my account, the ranking list is there with all that person's thumbs up and thumbs down. Just not on my profile. I really hope I don't have to delete my profile and create another one (re-adding the 300+ titles I had on the current profile) but it seems like that's something I'm going to have to do.

    1. My ratings are still showing. I still use star ratings, which I can use only with the app on my old-model Vizio TV. In April, 2017, I thumbed two films. These always appear at the top of my ratings list, followed by the star rated films, most recent at top.
I've had things disappear from Netflix from time to time, to come back a day or two later. So don't do anything drastic too quickly. Did you ask to speak to a supervisor when you called CS? It sometimes helps.

      Delete
    2. I hate the thumbs up down rating system. Since NF started to use it I have been getting more MA and R rated garbage showing up. It is useless really rating a series either I like it or I hate it with nothing in-between confuses the ratings even more.

      Delete
    3. CanandaiguaNY - I ended up calling customer support four times this morning and not a single person had any idea how to fix the issue. The fourth person suggested having their tech people call me a couple of hours later and them taking over my computer remotely but I'm not a fan of that so I took care of the issue the best I could myself.

I couldn't delete my original profile as that links to my DVD queue so I renamed that one "DVD" and then created a new profile and put my name on that and filled it up with all the movies/shows that were on my previous profile.

I'm not going to rate anything on the streaming or DVD side anymore because I don't want to again risk a lot of movies/shows no longer showing up just because I gave it a negative rating which is what happened on that first profile. I'll just keep the stuff I liked in my viewing activity list and delete the stuff I don't like as I go along.

Tony - If you hate adult content on Netflix so much, have you considered changing your profile (same place you rename or delete a profile) so it filters those out? I know they have a kid level profile and also a teen level profile which allows up to an including PG-13 content. That way you won't even see any of the other (more risque) stuff.

      Delete
    4. Except it does not work. Unless I create a kids only profile which restricts stuff to pre-PG the MA rated content still shows up and autoplays' but Notflix stupid restriction will still ask for a password to play it. So you can't play it but it will still autoplay there vulgar red trailer.

      Delete
    5. Tony - That's what I meant. Create a kids only profile that suits your viewing habits as opposed to keeping an adult profile and then constantly running over here to whinge about seeing adult content over there.

      Delete
    6. Then I can't watch any content higher than PG to avoid the MA garbage with the kids profile.

  14. Not so much of a complaint but more of a sign of relief. Lost in Space has a TV-PG rating so I am looking forward too it.

I know that but the info is hard to find. First you have to use the Netflix app not the one on the Apple TV though. You have to search for Netflix and when you see lost in space you click it and it will have a TV-PG rating. You will not find this info out on the website or the phone app.

Also unlike Amazon (unless the show says Amazon Kids Original) where they will rate a show PG or 14 then the second episode is vile and MA rated NF never really did this except for a couple of cooking shows that were vile later on after people complained but they are reality shows so you expect that.

I am right more prefer licensed content over originals. I find watching Amazon Prime much more now since they stepped up on the licensed content and Hulu for comedies.

  16. Lost in Space is terrible and I hate Notflix. Really saying it is clean series then having swear words like SOB and BullS**t. No thanks. I get plenty of the s word on standard cable which I don't watch anymore just OTA programs. Also the series is so dang depressing no likable characters all miserable and I don't even care if they all die.

I just downgraded my account to the standard 2 stream so T-Mobile can cover it completely. Really it just for my father he loves the filth on NF so let him keep it. Most of the content I can watch even originals are not even in 4K to begin with.

Now I spend most of the my time watching Hulu and Amazon Prime Video which just added the Dukes of Hazzards and Chips. Chips is more family friendly then Lost in Space really and it was a grown up 70's cop show and don't get me started on the original Twilight Zone how friendly that was.

I also found out that Hulu has the original lost in space which is truly family friendly.

  17. Hi Tony, I'm really glad you have found sites that carry the content you enjoy. To be sure, Netflix isn't for everyone. I doubt there are many of us on this blog who are as happy with the current content on NF as we were when we first subscribed. But the price point is low enough that it's still worth it for most. Glad you found the original Lost in Space - it's in a class by itself.

    1. Thanks. Since I am not wasting $3 extra a month the nerve as Amazon offers 4K included with no extra charge T-Mobile is paying for NF fully again.

I also read there might be another price increase on NF soon and the paid shill investor journalism love that news as NF got so called "subscriber gain". I wonder how many actually pay for NF and don't use it.

Example my next door neighbors watch Amazon Video way more than NF. I know because they leave there windows fully open and you easily see there TV browsing Amazon Video on there Roku.

      Delete
  18. On another note I can hide most of the R and MA rated garbage now from Netflix without playing a daily game of wake a mole thumbs down. I can edit my profile to allow TV shows and movies to "for teens and below" and it hides most of the MA and R rated content. It will show TV-14 and PG-13 or below. Example I can search for "Jessica Jones" or "House of Cards" and it no longer shows up just related content.

  19. What an utter useless service Notflix is. Really I have not watched it in over 7 days. I am sick of there original mostly garbage taking over the service. The only licensed content left is not even in English really who wants to watch some dumb movie in Dutch.

With the major dissapointment Lost in Space was and downgrading my account back to 2 stream HD I have not really missed much. Now I am finding out that Hulu is even getting the Dreamworks content the only content I really watched.

So next year Dreamworks and Disney are gone but there crappy new Millarword will replace much good content with Baboom NF MA rated garbage with a few sprinkles of some PG content that should be rated 14 and very little family content.

They do this it will affect me as I can only stream one device I need at least two. NF is a joke they are losing money because there newer originals are bombing so they find a BS excuse to raise rates.

Next year there will be no FOX, Disney or new Dreamworks movies and series yes they are moving to Hulu so all they will have left will be there crappy Millarworld deal which will be mostly mature crud.

    1. The headline on that linked forum thread says the exact opposite of the article that was copied and pasted on it.

Nobody's going from four screens to two because the most screens you can have right now is two. There will potentially be the option to have four screens at once which is good for families where the parents and kids can each watch something different. Nobody will be forced to upgrade from two to four screens. It's just another option.

As one half of a couple the two screen option is what I'll continue to have as we don't need more.

    2. Reading all these articles which are paid shill original loving bloggers the comments show that many are tired of NF with there originals many say they suck. Many dropped or are going to drop NF if this happens.

Example here is a paid shill
      https://www.engadget.com/2018/07/05/netflix-ultra-tier-price-increase-inevitable/

Again reviewers say there is nothing worth watching and will cancel.

    1. the homepage practically is Netflix Originals. what i really miss is the semiweekly announcement of truly recent additions from the last week. i haven't gotten that in weeks.

    2. That's why I rely on Instant Watcher now although sometimes (like this past week) days can go by without an update only to maybe get added on there when whoever runs it returns.

I liked the Originals tab because I could find certain titles more easily such as their stand-up specials instead of having to trawl through the entire comedy page.

  25. A couple of days ago, I clicked on the Netflix app on my iPad, and a clip of one of Netflix’s titles began playing at the top of the page. I wouldn’t have minded if it played just the video but it was also playing the audio—and quite loudly. You can click a button on the lower right side of the video to mute the sound, at which point the video plays with subtitles, but I can’t figure out a way to mute the sound automatically when I click on the app. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem? This is really annoying—essentially it means I have to put headphones on if I want to just look at a title. Otherwise, the sound disturbs everyone in the room!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. This hasn’t happened to me often, but when it does I quickly scroll down below what’s playing and tap on another title; any one will do, even if it’s not what I was looking for. The noise and video will stop. Then, I click x in the upper right and go back to the main screen. The preview is no longer playing. A bothersome way around a Netflix annoyance.

They will always have licensed content, but increasingly only from independent companies. Warner Brothers and 20th Century Fox titles are also being phased out, the former for their own site and the latter for Disney's.

    talk2terih December 25, 2018 at 4:57 PM

I hear you. I was a huge NF fan in the early days when they were the only game in town and had pretty much any movie you ever wanted.

The more they move toward original content only the less I enjoy them. And I dread having to sign up (and pay) for numerous streaming services if I want any variety in the content available to me.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I forgot there's a page for "Discusssions: Complaints" that's separate from the "Discussions and Ideas" page. But complaints are ideas! LOL

Just to clarify my comment above, as major studios start their own streaming services, indies like IFC and Magnolia will be sticking around, and they provide some of the best content anyway IMO. So no, I'm not worried about Netflix turning into an all-Originals site for the foreseeable future.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well I put my foot in it, turns out IFC just signed an exclusive contract with Hulu, so they're leaving too!

      Delete
    2. either way, those comments weren't expiring titles, but it was christmas.

we know netflix is moving toward as close to all originals as they can have, and we know other companies are starting their own streaming services, so we shouldn't be surprised by any purges and those companies' decisions not to restock. stream while the streamin's good. it's why i've not watched netflix or other originals. there's all the time in the world for that. for other companies' properties, as has been said many times before yesterday, one will have to navigate multiple services just to watch. i wonder if some people weren't too hasty abandoning their dvd or blu-ray purchasing.

      Delete
    3. Both IFC Films and Magnolia have had output contracts with Hulu for about a year now, and Amazon has output deals with A24 and Music Box Films among others. However, Netflix has been adding A24 films as they roll off Amazon. These output contracts and the upcoming Disney and WarnerMedia streaming services will certainly have an impact on how soon “recent” studio films make it onto Netflix. That is the reason that Netflix is pumping out and/or buying its own films for distribution. I don’t think it is going to have a significant effect on films that are more than five years old, with the possible exception of some “franchise” films like The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Marvel Universe, some Disney classics and possibly some others. There are very few films more than five years old that are so “must see” that a studio will tie them to one streaming service for more than three to six months. As movies disappear from Netflix, they pop up on Amazon, Hulu, HBO, Showtime or Starz and seem to rotate among them.

      Delete
    4. Yeah sorry, that Hulu/IFC deal was signed a year ago. I've certainly seen a lot of IFC and Magnolia titles on Netflix over the past year, granted when they're expiring, but that's why those two companies came to mind. But I was definitely wrong to say the indie companies are sticking around. In fact in a quick Google search I don't see that Netflix has signed a new deal with ANY outside content provider over the past year. Seth may be more right about an all-Originals site than I was giving him credit for.

      Delete
    5. Wrong again, Netflix signed a multi-picture deal with Paramount in November.

      Delete

    6. I seem to remember reading somewhere that Netflix's goal was to have 50% original content, which means (duh) they would still have 50% licensed stuff from other sources. It's not going to be as good as we all remember from "the good old days" of Netflix, but it could still make it worth the relatively low monthly fee.

Also, while I know this isn't the right solution for everyone, I always like to plug the local library systems - there's not much I want to see that mine doesn't have, and they get new stuff as soon as it comes out on dvd. Libraries making movies available via the internet seems to be the coming thing, so that might give streaming services like Netflix a reason to keep the content high quality. I haven't had time to check out Kanopy, but I definitely want to. Also, don't forget about the Netflix dvd option (for as long as it lasts). That's another way to get access to more than what is available to stream.

      Delete
    7. Kanopy is fantastic, got a library card just so I could use it!

      Delete
    8. I'm sad that my library does not partner with Kanopy, because it does look pretty amazing. I'm hoping they will eventually. My library is just far enough away with oddball enough hours that borrowing DVDs from them is a pain.

      Delete
    9. i think my library has kanopy but i have never used it before. my library gets all of the new dvd releases but you might be on hold for a while if you don't reserve them far enough in advance.

    12/30:
The Mysteries of Laura, Season 1 (2016) has been removed from Netflix.

bummer. it must have just happened, too, because the gizmo at decider still claims it's available when it's not. i wish netflix cared about its customers enough not to remove seasons of shows. who'd start at season 2? at least make it clearer when only some of the show is leaving.

    ReplyDelete
  29. And it happened again with Heartland! Luckily, I had just finished Season 3! I missed Season 1 of The Mysteries of Laura, so if I decide to watch the show, it will have to only be Season 2 (if it sticks around). I wonder if this means that they will be removing the rest of these 2 shows soon!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes I am ticked off about Hearland too really Notflix just go all originals and be done with it really don't bother to licence anything else as your service is sucking more everyday. Notflix don't care lets waste more money promoting Bird Box.

At least Hearland is available on other service Prime Video, Hulu, Hallmark and other ones I saw it on so it is always possible to still watch it but for those on a budget it might be tough.

      Delete
    2. Seasons 1-3 of Heartland are back up on Netflix. So is Season 2 of Tales of Light, a Netflix Original docuseries from Australia. No new season has been added to Law & Order: SUV. Season 1 and Seasons 5-19 began streaming on Amazon Prime on January 1; and Hulu has Seasons 1-19 plus the episodes broadcast so far in the current Season 20. My guess is that Netflix has no real interest in carrying a show that also appears on Amazon Prime and Hulu (unless it’s American Horror Story).

    1. I figured out the problem. The horrible netflix coders since they never bothered to fix their site problem and stopped at showing 400 movies on the queue, you can't see what is really happening. They have new movies going to the end of the queue now instead of the beginning which is horrible since now I have no way on their site to move them since I can't get to them.

    2. This is ridiculous. I am using the Netflix app on my iPad and iPhone. Before today, I could add a title and see it in the front of my list. Now it shows up at the end. Very frustrating when I try to move expiring titles to the top of the list—can’t do it anymore, and I long ago gave up trying to move titles around on my computer because it was much too difficult.

      Delete
    3. hmm, i still see "Move to top" in my My List on a computer. i actually prefer netflix does add it to the bottom of the list for that reason; there is no "send to bottom" where i may want it closer to. it takes a long time to move from top to bottom or even middle. i probably will never hit 400 titles in My List again, but of course if i did i would share your frustration at the programming incompetence. if you want to tweet at them, i made the #fixmylist hash tag last year (tweets deleted).

    4. Movies I add to My List are going on at the top again.

    5. they are adding to the bottom from my device now, as i prefer...

    6. Guess it depends on what device/app one is using. I add titles on the Netflix website on my laptop, which is still putting them at the top of my My List (which works for me - glad there are other options for those who prefer titles added to the bottom of their lists).

  31. wondering how netflix is going to pay for all of those amazing new movies and shows besides issuing junk bonds? i just got notice that my monthly subscription is increasing to $12.99 a month from today. all i watched and plan to watch in april added up to just over 3 hours, including a show that aired on public broadcasting. i definitely feel like i am subsidizing all of the password sharers who binge watch at least 3 hours a day per device.

    1. Netflix is in big trouble come November when Disney+ comes out. I don't see them lasting long and before anyone says that the $7 Disney+ will go up it will but not right away and by then NF will be $20 a month for mostly quantity programing.

    2. i could honestly see NF being $20 a month in the not too distant future and climb from there, just like cable. it's so ironic to me that when they had the greatest catalog of licensed content it was either free with a dvd subscription or under $10. that said, deutsche bank recently labeled NF a "cultural necessity." i can now see myself canceling but can't generally argue against that assessment.

  32. Since we're talking about URL mismatches on the "> Read or add more expiring titles, or remarks pertaining to expiring - or recently expired - titles." page, does anyone else have the problem where if they click too many of Carol's links in a row, they get locked out of Netflix on all devices for 24 hours?

I haven't counted to see how many NF URLs before you get locked out, but it's got to be a high number like 30 to 50. It may also be that having one and only one Netflix tab open is the solution - I tend to open 3 or 4 of Carol's links at a time (3 to 4 tabs). (I learned a few years ago that if I open something like 10 or more Netflix tabs, I instantly get locked out on all devices for 24 hours.)

It's a known issue...for "All other devices," NF states "We are currently researching this error. To help us investigate, please contact customer service.": https://help.netflix.com/en/node/64180

NF has given me different "root causes" - one said it's because multiple tabs looks like hacking, others have said it's "network congestion" - but none have been able to explain what that means.

    1. i've had different web sites test me or tell me i'm a machine because i visited many URLs in quick succession from my browser history, although all in the same tab. i've gotten locked out/forced into a timeout for that. i'm sure netflix are not accounting for dozens of links being manually clicked, especially via a third party.

    2. I've had that happen with other sites (such as Vulture where they have many of the new titles announced). I've learned to do a manual search rather than clicking on the links on a third party website. Also, I discovered by accident that my Norton anti-virus program includes a VPN which allows me to access the site as normal on the rare occasion when I'm locked out for some strange reason.

  33. Did Tony Ramirez finally cut the Netflix cord?

    1. Haven't heard from Tony for awhile, so he may have. He did write to tell us about a couple of other streaming services he was using that were more to his liking, so it sounds like he found the kind of content he prefers. He had said that he got Netflix for free, and that that was the only reason he still had it. Perhaps that ran out, or he just doesn't use it much any more.

  34. Anyone else having the problem where a Netflix home page pops up quickly telling you there's a problem followed by an immediate reload where the page you want pops up.  The home page seems to have a picture of a "melting" birthday cake with someone cutting it with a knife.

I had finished watching The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell
https://www.netflix.com/title/80201868  The picture might be from there, but it flashes by too quickly to tell.

The reload happens so fast I haven't been able to read the problem statement, but it's been happening pretty frequently, so it's annoying.

    1. I haven't experienced what you describe, Anonymous, but it does sound annoying. Not looking forward to that. Hope it resolves soon.
