  1. Star Wars clone wars expiring way to go Notflix. Really you have the exclusive season 6 and it is not even safe. I guess that freaking annoying BABOOM ugly Neflix with white background crap is the only thing that is safe from not going away.

  2. Hi Tony - I have now updated the link to this page that is on the Home page, just above where comments start. I kind of spaced on doing that when I put this page up a few days ago. Oops! Thanks for catching it, and letting me know.

This page has been getting views, though. If people went to the previous page, they would see there was a new one in my last comment, and I did remember to update the links in the sidebar and footer.

I'm sure as the month goes on, we'll have more comments here.

  3. It looks like a big purge from Warner and NBC Universal but squat on anything from these paid shill NF original loving tech blogs. If it was not for this site and Instantwatcher I would not know what goes away and what they added new.

I just wish someone did a website for Hulu that had Instantwatcher what's new and what is going away. Having to rely on these bias tech sites for Hulu I miss many things that they add and cough even remove sometimes like the Viacom purge only someone here told me about.

  4. I wish they would stop doing original content and go back to their original mission - a library of movies and TV series for people who don't have the time or patience to catch them when originally released. I find myself turning more and more to Tubi. It seems like lot of series wind up there after Netflix cancels them.

    1. I agree. Original content thanks to Notflix I hate that word original now ruined what once was a great place to watch classic and current TV shows. The same thing happened to HBO and Showtime too.

  5. Hi Tony, time for another friendly reminder. You have begun leaving complaint-like comments after every new expiring title is added in the comments on the main page. If it's really important to you to make these comments, please come to the complaints page, and reference the expiring titles, and then make your comments about them. If not important enough to do that, then the comments don't need to be made at all. Thanks for your cooperation.

    1. Sorry I did not really though I left complaints. I just said something like "no surprise NF" and "at least it did not expire before Christmas". I could have really gone off about Buffy and X-Files expiring but I did not say anything.

    2. Hi again, it's true your most recent comments on the main page have been fairly innocuous. Still, when there's a conversational comment from Tony after every new expiring title added, it gets in the way of having a smooth flow of information that readers want to get through as quickly as possible. I don't mind such comments once in a while - say, 2 or 3 times a month. That's the most any one of the other readers ever contributes of those kinds of comments on the main page.

Keep in mind that we have two pages where conversation is appropriate, encouraged even - Discussions and Complaints. I'm sure you would have gotten some support had you gone off about Buffy and X-Files here on the Complaints page. It's not too late.

Please use one of the "conversation" pages for just-me-weighing-in kinds of comments. And think carefully before leaving comments on the Home page. Remember, that page isn't about me, and it isn't about you. It's about all readers getting the information they are coming to the blog to find: expiring titles, renewals, disappearing seasons, etc.

Returning shows are iffy. Unless it's something that someone has asked about, like the recent Brain Games, I would prefer that favorite returning titles be put on the Discussions page (sometimes the Existing Titles We Recommend page is appropriate, too). That way, if others want to chime in, it's no problem.

      Thanks for listening, Tony.

    3. Tony,
I removed your main-page comment about Clone Wars needing to be updated on the list because it was unnecessary. Please follow these rules regarding comments about needed fixes:
      > For anything that needs to be fixed on the master expiring list, please wait until AFTER the complete list update is done for the day. I just wrote notes about changes to the update process, which I suggest you read, if you haven't already. If a problem doesn't get fixed with the update, then it's fine to let me know. Otherwise, let me do my job. If the needed fix isn't brought up until after the update, then wait until the next day's update is done. Let me decide what is urgent enough to go in and fix right away, and what can wait until the following day.

      > For other kinds of fixes around the blog, such as updating links, spelling errors, etc., please wait 24 hours before telling me. I can't twitch my nose, like Samantha on Bewitched, and make everything happen at once. Give me a little time to get to everything. If, after a day has passed, the mistake is still there, then I will welcome your letting me know.

  6. I can't wait for this to come out.
    http://www.cartoonbrew.com/classic/boomerang-launching-5-month-classic-cartoon-streaming-service-149169.html

Now only if Marvel and the various classic TV shows would come out with a ad free version because I can't depend on Notflix to add anything good except for more original adult crap with there stupid baboom intro.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Also Notflix added this past month freaking over 47 Mature rated garbage titles. Really. Not everyone wants to watch programs with sex and swearing. At least Hulu and soon Boomerang streaming service will get my money maybe even Cruchroll and Filmation for anime then I most likely dump NF when I finish some very few shows by summer's end.

  8. Agatha Christie's Poirot - Seasons 1-6 Expired Without Notice
Great move Notflix. To think I was going to continue watching this. What kind of stupid service are you when you want to watch a partial series but miss the pass seasons. Really Notflix you are on thin ice with me and when it melts after the summer I can finally drop you for good.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies

    1. Yeah, this is pretty low. I don't think Netflix gives 2 thoughts to taking things off, whether full shows or partial. They're all about, "look how many shows we added," and touting all their original stuff, most of which is just fair, at best.

Poirot, on the other hand, is a classic, and deserves better treatment. So do Netflix's customers.

Even though I completely agree with you, Tony, I would encourage you to go ahead and watch the seasons that are left. There's not a lot of carry-over from one episode or season to the next - other than becoming familiar with the different personalities of the characters, which you can do at whatever point you start. One can enjoy each episode as an entity unto itself. David Suchet is the perfect Poirot. I can watch him all day, and have done so.

      Delete
    2. So we agree. Really bad. I heard the new service Britbox has Poirot. It seems that Notflix cares more about original garbage yes most of it is garbage and now you have to get all of these micro subscriptions as I can't wait for Boomerang's service now we need a Disney Marvel toon service too. Thank goodness they are cheap $5 to $6 a month but still I want the old Netflix when I called it Netflix and they had everything that people would want not mature hot garbage come on Notflix over 40 MA titles you added this month.

      Delete
    3. I agree Tony, they will probably raise the price again so we can watch even less. There are top notch Brit shows like Prime Suspect, they don't even offer unless you rent the disks. I have had 2-3 movies "waiting" for 2 years that they posted in their browse section. Got so fed up that I bought the entire Midsomer Murders just so I can watch them again in order. They remove 1/2 of Poirot but add a whole line of gay content movies which I guess they think is okay. I think it is time to pull the switch. If you check, they offer the same movies in most of their genre's. Netflix used to be excellent. Now about the only thing good they have is Longmire. New Iron Fist is a joke that just drags on and on, nothing like the comics. Daredevil was so far from the comics that I quit watching that. They are like Directv; 500 channels and nothing to watch :)

    4. I am on the edge of canceling NF but if they have the nerve even raise my rates even a $1 while I still have the craptastic service I will cancel them immediately.

  10. Buffy, Angel, X-Files is going away on Notflix. Really this service is sucking more everyday. At least Hulu has those shows but the way Notflix is going I can drop there horrible service and not see another stupid mature original shoved down on me or any more shrinking credits or autoplay filthy original trailers. I will wait until Boomerang streaming service comes out then I might even get britbox and one of the animie services and then I can drop Notflix for good. Good riddance.

  11. There's a real good amount of TV series and movies going off in March. I can't watch everything which is a bummer but is there a reason that so many good titles are expiring at the same time?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. it's a lot of fox tv content. netflix probably wants to save its money for its originals, and fox probably wants to get in the streaming service game themselves or have a better offer (maybe exclusive deals with hulu). angel, buffy, firefly, and dollhouse are all joss whedon properties although on different networks (fox and WB, now CW).

      Delete
    2. There originals suck butt. Sorry but I am saying it. Even the very few original content for family's can't hold a candle to the great licensed content that expires everyday. Also whenever I rarely watch there original content I have to mute my soundbar so I don't hear that annoying baboom intro. The worst intro of any network.

      Delete
    3. lol a lot of complaints over the intro of programming that "suck butt" you shouldnt be having that problem unless you are watching those show. The originals they have are for a wide audiance, they need to make a show that fits for everyone. You're not going to like every show. But over time im sure you would find a few. Lol just saying a lot of complaints from something you dont have to have lol..

    1. Thank you, Tony, for sharing your complaint here. Perfectly done.
Whoever thought baboom was a good idea is a baboon. I don't watch much of the original stuff, but when I do, I mute the sound before clicking on the title, and wait until after the baboom to turn it on again.

The more original shows they produce, the greater the need for a more appealing intro.

      Delete
    2. The thing is when they first started to do originals when they had the better red and white NF logo there originals use to show the NF logo and it was quiet. Then they redesign there logo making it uglier and then the loud baboom comes on. Heck it even did it when you first launched the app but they must have actually listened to complaints because it no longer does that anymore on any of my devices.

    http://www.polygon.com/2017/3/22/15023026/netflix-leaving-shows-april-buffy-arrested-development
"Netflix’s chief of content, Ted Sarandos, has previously said the company’s goal is to have at least 50 percent of the content on the service be exclusive to Netflix. "
So half of the content will be garbage original mostly mature rated and the licensed content will be no name dollar store B movies and TV shows.

Hulu step up your game get all the shows that NF or Notflix is dropping and you will be number 1 streaming service in a year or so.

Foul mouth stand up comedian waste money but no they won't renew stuff people watch or get any new good licensed content.

This is worse than HBO. I remember years ago they went crazy on the stand up comedy filth but for Notflix to release a stupid new filty stand up comedy every-week wasting millions of dollars with some lowlife standing in front of a stage yet they can't renew X-Files, Buffy. Netflix or Notflix deserves to go bankrupt one day.

    ReplyDelete
  15. renewals are good in general, but i've been burned a few times now watching programs only for them to be renewed the last week or right around when or after they were supposed to expire. i wish they would be more prompt with the renewals (last minute negotiations and not just blatant inconsideration, i assume) and always opt for longer renewals than one month.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies

    1. Amen. Also, if some renewals are the result of customers begging for titles not to be let go, the last minute reprieve could be avoided if Netflix gave more notice of expiring titles. I'd also like to know when renewal is possible vs. it's definitely leaving, no chance of renewal.

  16. I've noticed Netflix has removed something else. Very frustrating as I used this all the time as I love foreign films.

You used to be able to click on "browse" and get a number of categories including "international" which you could click on and see, say, "French" which you could click on and see all their French films.

As of this morning, "international" is gone as a category and, to see international films you need to click on the other categories (like, say, "drama" and then click on "international drama") but there is no way to simply look up French movies or movies from any other countries.

This comes a couple of weeks after Netflix wiped the language listing from their movies. Now, unless you happen to know which country a particular movie is from, you have to go to IMDB and look it up yourself.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. they don't make it easy; i'm not sure how it benefits customers to remove the language or country of origin from the description other than there are probably a majority of customers who otherwise wouldn't take a chance on something foreign, especially with subtitles. that said, you can look up category numbers for browsing. https://netflixcodes.me/ should help you find specific countries. i know it's still an external site like IMDB, but at least this will get you back to netflix.

      Delete
    2. Thanks for the link, Travis. I'd never heard of that site before so gave it a try and, voila, all their streamable Japanese movies showed up. Nice. I've bookmarked the code list.

Hopefully Netflix doesn't alter things in order to render it useless any time soon like they did those extensions you could download that sorted your DVD queue.

      Delete
    3. The international category is back when you click on "browse"!

      Delete

  17. Great point, Luke, and a great resource, Travis. I've been frustrated by the reduction of search categories in "Browse," too. Another way to go is to type what you want in the Netflix site search box (where you search for titles), e.g., Japanese movies. That will bring up the same lot as the Secret Categories site. It can be faster if you know exactly what you want, but you don't get the sort option pull-down menu, which can help if it's a big category.

Memory Lane: I used to love looking through the Silent Films category - all those great Buster Keaton comedies, and classic dramas. Now there's a total of 6 Silents, and 2 of them are the Trip to the Moon short. Boo Hoo.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I guess NF will come out with a new original silent series mature rating and a loud baboom before and after it finishes waking anyone up if watched at night.

  18. Anyone else hving a problem not seeing what language a program is in until u start watching it? I used to be able to click details on a tv show or movie and it would list all available languages and subtitles for that progam. now under that box all it says is "streaming in HD". this is extremely annoying since theres so much foreign tv and movies on netflix.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. i guess it depends on the app. ps3 netflix app still lists all available languages and subtitles under info without having to start watching.

      Delete
    2. yeah my ps3 is fine, just on chrome, where i usually watch, it does not. or when im clicking the links from this site to see expiring movies it opens in chrome and cant see them, i have to play them to find out what language its in

  19. I dont like this thumbs up thumbs down crab... some shows have a % of what fits what you watch, but if ur searching thru a bunch of movies u cant see ratings from them at all, Netflix seems to be making it harder to distinquish between indie movies, hollywood movies, international movies, and blending them all into "not originals" lol because its getting harder and harder to use efficiently.. IMO anyways

    1. I've literally spent over a decade rating things in Netflix and that's all.... gone now????

They can't even be bothered to import old ratings data into their thumb format???

      Delete
    2. For now, the DVD side still has the star ratings which is good as I've been rating everything I watch since I joined about a decade ago. The thumbs up and down are only for the streaming side at least for now anyway.

I do like the fact that, if you give a movie a thumbs down, it turns black and white and fades. I think I read somewhere that giving something a thumbs down means it won't show up again. I'll have to try it tomorrow.

I'd like to be able to hide those movies I'm never going to watch like the Hindu stuff or whatever they are (Netflix got a whole slew of them at once a few weeks back and my New Arrivals section is clogged with them).

      Delete
    3. Yeah but what if you thumbs down something and then you decide a year later you might like those Hindu movies, but none of them show up? They just need to keep it simple and basic. itll keep everyone happy

    5. Anything you give a thumbs down to will still show up if you specifically search for it later by typing in the title. It just won't show up on your homepage (and hopefully the genre category - I'll have to check that).

      Delete
    6. Yeah, but i dont like that, same with Pandora, what if your music or movie tastes change and u want those to appear on ur homepage? u should be able to choose how you want your movies displayed

      Delete
    7. in the original netflix there used to be a button for "not interested." i only ever used it a few times and when i was quite sure i didn't ever want to see them and didn't want them recommended. many years later (about 10), sorting through my ratings, i ended up clearing at least a couple of those ratings because i've changed since then. i'd rather just ignore movies and shows the old fashioned way, with my brain, but that's personal preference based on experience.

that said, i see a lot of the same content advertised on the netflix homepage and in the app and some content that i know is available (because i've seen it or added it to My List) never advertised, so if thumbs down freshens up the recommendations for people i can understand the appeal. at this point i think i'm done rating titles for streaming unless they change it back to stars.

      Delete
    8. I went through every movie and show available of Netflix streaming today and gave each one I've seen a thumb up or thumb down. Yes, each time you give something a thumb down, the box turns black and white and fades. No, it doesn't go away entirely so you can still see it if you change your mind. By the way, if you want to reverse a thumb down, just click on the thumb down again and it'll reverse and the box will go back to normal.

  21. I wish they handled international TV series a bit differently. For quite a few of them they seem to only acquire half of the shows available and so you're left hanging halfway through. If all the episodes have already been aired, it would be nice if they could give us the complete catalog.

    1. it seems increasingly clear "notflix" is cutting corners with incomplete series, including covertly expiring select seasons of u.s. shows. this way they can still advertise having the shows even though they are getting rid of or not licensing some seasons.

      Delete
    2. I agree fully. How about not even having the earlier seasons so you are forced to watch a show in the middle which I never bother to even check out even if I might like it.

      Delete
    3. Just out of curiosity, which shows are you talking about? I noticed that this happened with a Korean show they had a few years ago, Vampire Detective. They got season 1, it expired, then a few months later, they got only season 2. Korean shows don't tend to have multiple seasons, so this usually isn't a problem, but I'd like to know which shows/genre of shows this happens to if I branch out to watching shows of other foreign countries.

      Delete
    4. Nica, I've noticed it with series from India and Turkey. For example, I started one called "Magnificent Century". Netflix has 50 episodes but the Wikipedia page says there are 139 episodes. It seems it stops about halfway through season 2. I won't add them now unless I can confirm that Netflix has all the episodes.

      Delete
    5. Same with InuYasha I started to watch it on Notflix until I found out they only had about 40 episodes when Hulu has the entire 160 or so episodes so I continued to watch it on Hulu.

      Delete
    6. i think notflix does that a fair bit with anime. i've noticed they've licensed the first season or series but not followup seasons/series. i watched psycho-pass and would have liked to have seen psycho-pass 2, but notflix has it neither for streaming nor disc rental.

    7. That is why I might try another stand alone animie servies. NF use to be the place to get everything now all it is NF baboom intro. Also Netflix should rename the company Matureflix because 80% of new content it MA rating most original garbage.

  22. I have to make a new complaint about the Netflix originals. I am sick and tired of these being about 80% of the titles on the press release of what is coming to Netflix. Thanks to this, I had no idea that Bridget Jones's Baby was coming to streaming and had added it to my DVD queue. Thankfully, I didn't get the disc before seeing the play button next to it, but seriously, Netflix, how are you not making that publicly known? And I'm tired of some of these big-name movies not being in the "new releases" category in favor of shows and movies that 1) have been on Netflix for months and 2) are sometimes already on my list.

    ReplyDelete

    1. for a while this year i was checking https://www.netflix.com/browse/just-added at least weekly because i don't read the press release and had a similar experience to you viewing "New Releases" and even "Recently Added" as categories. netflix mysteriously stopped linking and updating that page a few weeks ago. even though new content was being added to the streaming library, the page would show no titles added in two weeks. i'd given up and started to forget about it but just checked it again for this reply. now it mysteriously only lists netflix originals :/ you tryna tell us something, netflix?

      Delete
    2. This is why I use instantwatcher.com to check new content. I can even filter out r and ma rated garbage from showing up.

I come here to also see what is going away.

      Delete
    3. If I have any interest in watching a movie or show, I add it to my dvd queue. Some titles are there just in case they are added to streaming. I group what is available on streaming together in the queue, which also acts as a flag for content that is suddenly dropped from streaming. Once a week or so, I will browse my dvd queue and scroll down looking for an out of place "play" button, or a missing play button. When a new title has a play button, I reorder it in the dvd queue with other streaming titles and add it to my My List. Needless to say, my dvd queue is absurdly long. Maintaining order in MyList is one PITA I've complained about to Netflix many times. I know this doesn't help with entirely new or streaming only content, but my queue is so long I don't feel like I'm missing out.

  23. I find this site, http://usa.newonnetflix.info/ , to be a good source for finding out what has been added. I believe it's listed under "Related Website" on here.

  24. Carol, you may need to reticle this section "Complaints through May 2017". A big Netflix thumbs-down to the content they added on May 1, which included at least 24 Indian movies, plus a host of content from PBS' American Experince documentaries. I don't think I have seen a less impressive list of additions in a long time. Sure, we got Forrest Gump and Happy Feet (which is also streaming on Amazon Prime). Plus we got our fill of third-rate horror flicks. What we didn't get was some decent content from before 2000 (excluding Forrest Gump). This is particularly disappointing since we lost some "classic" films at the end of April, all,of the Smithsonian channel content, and Fox continues to drop its content from Netflix. Maybe Netflix will make up for these losses and the addition of what I can only describe as inexpensive "filler" over the coming weeks. However, I fear that as Netflix releases more and more "original" content, it is going to have growing quality control problems; and it has so much original content that it really can't provide sufficient resources to promote any content other than its tried-and-true series (House of Cards, OITNB, The Crown) or shows that get a lot of media buzz (Master of None, Stranger Things, 13 Reasons Why). There is a lot of good foreign content (Chewing Gum, Crazyhead, Fauda, among many others) that just show up as Netflix originals without any time spent by Netflix on promotion. The same is even truer of Netflix original movies, many of which are critical indie darlings, which suddenly show up on Netflix without any attempt to promote (or support) them. Without reading up on these films at Rotten Tomatoes or IMDb, one would think that these were direct-to-video films (which I guess they are since Netflix refuses to give them prior theatrical runs).

    1. I like a variety of content, including foreign films and TV shows, but I feel like they're barely even trying to get some of the bigger films Hollywood has churned out lately. It's why I won't give up my DVD queue, even if I probably won't get through it for years (it's just that large). If you look at their top 100 on the DVD side, there's usually only about 10-15 titles also available on streaming. (Right now, there are 12.) That's a huge amount that isn't available for streaming and unfortunately probably never will be.

to tie the conversation to the star ratings, i wish they would leverage their data and use their highest rated dvd content (e.g., average rating of 4.5 or above from all customers) in picking their "filler" instead of some of the dreck they always add. the selection of golden age films seems random (but is actually probably dependent on contracts with specific studios/distributors), and there are huge gaps now of decades hardly being represented in the library. for instance, i used to take for granted that there were movies from the '70s i'd never heard of when browsing, and now i wish i'd taken a chance and watched some of them because the Z movie is king now more than ever when it comes to the titles netflix adds. i'd gladly have less titles in the library if it meant higher quality. i guess it all comes down to those stats about how few customers even watch most of the content and what little netflix thinks of those of us who fall under that category.

    3. I think the lack of major new films is due to three reasons. First, HBO has a long-term output agreement with Universal Pictures, Fox and Warner Brothers, Epix has long-term output deals with MGM, Paramount and Lionsgate, and STARZ has a long-term output agreement with Sony (which includes Columbia Pictures). That leaves Disney as the only remaining major studio, and Netflix has an output deal with them. Netflix has shown an aversion to output deals from smaller distributors, such as A24, Music Box Films, Broadgreen Pictures and others who have entered into deals with Amazon Prime or Hulu, and they also cancelled their deal with Epix.. The ostensible reason is the waiting time between a theatrical release and a release on Netflix, which can range from 9 to 18 months. For example, Netflix has an output deal with The Weinstein Company, which produced Southpaw. The film was released in theaters sometime in the fall of 2015 and is just showing up on Netflix now. (The smaller distributors seem to show up on streaming platforms within a 6 to 9 month window. Finally, Netflix believes (I think wrongly) that they can either produce or acquire features that equal Hollywood blockbusters (think War Machine with Brad Pitt or Bright with Will Smith) or are as good as indie movies (think Tallulah or any other original Netflix film) without a theatrical release. Besides thinking that an Adam Sandler film is of theatrical quality, Netflix either doesn't want to or doesn't care about promoting their films in the same way as movie producers would. So Netflix original movies get "dropped onto the streaming service with generally no fanfare and no mention of a pedigree (did it win an award at Sundance? What have critics said about it?). Instead, what we get is a percentage match (sometimes), which no one trusts.

On occasion, Netflix will get first rights after a theatrical release to a movie like The Big Short, Spotlight (which I think was the result of a now-expired output deal) or Sausage Party, which I hesitate to put in the same class as The Big Short or Spotlight, but these instances are very rare. For better or worse (and I think it's for worse) they like their Netflix original film model as much as they like their thumbs up or down "matching" system.

    4. I agree completely. In other countries without HBO, Starz they have much better movie selection on NF.

  25. The Disney so called movie deal is the only thing saving NF. It took me over 20 minutes the other day to find a movie I play it and it is another stupid dubbed in English movie where the lips don't match. I stopped it right away and watched a movie on Hulu that was actually made in this country.

  26. Clone Wars is threading to expire again. No wonder I have not watched Notflix in the past few days. I wish this company would stop screwing around with there licensed content to push there mostly mature original garbage.

Come on Hulu get Clone Wars and even the new Rebels series.

    1. Hi Tony - if Hulu does get Clone Wars - or any of the series that expire from NF - maybe you could make a note of that on our new Streaming Services Guide page. I think it would be helpful if we could let people know where they could find stuff that expired from NF, especially series, since not everyone is able to watch all of those before they expire. Just a thought. Thanks.

    2. I was thinking of that too. I notice that when NF, Hulu and Amazon gets content there is very little fan fair unless it is original garbage. If there was a instant watcher site for Hulu I would know anything they add that is new and interested.

    3. Decider.com has a listing each week of what is coming to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu and HBO Now. It also has a list towards the end of each month of all new content for the coming month that is announced by each service.

    4. Thanks, Wellesley72. Are there additional titles on the weekly lists that aren't on the monthly list? Also, if these lists are generated by the services, are they like the NF monthly press release, which is never complete, or even close? Something is better than nothing, of course, but I like knowing when the something isn't everything.

      Delete
    5. The monthly lists are usually compiled from the streaming services' press releases. The same is true for the weekly lists. If a title of interest appears on a streaming service but hasn't shown up on the monthly or weekly list, it may be highlighted by Decider in a separate article. The only place where I have seen upcoming titles that are not on the Netflix press release is in Brian Clarkson's blog to which I sometimes contribute. I have not seen similar blogs for Amazon Prime or Hulu, although I don't think either services adds a lot of other content than what is shown in their press releases. In Amazon's case, I should say "significant" content since they seem to add a lot of short, web originals or "Birds whistling in trees for four hours" types of content that you can see if you look on InstantWatcher, which posts daily additions to both the Netflix and Amazon Prime catalogues. Amazon seems to add between 30 and 50 titles daily although there is rarely anything that doesn't appear on the monthly press release that merits watching.

  28. Reviews, where did they go? When I go to "your account" and click on "reviews", it only shows three.??? When I go to a dvd movie I know I have written a review on recently, it still shows, but is not in my "reviews" list. The 'reviews' list seems to be on the streaming side since any link or search from there goes to streaming. I don't recall reviewing any streaming titles, so I have no idea what they are trying to do here. What a mess.

    ReplyDelete

    1. not for me. my only 2 reviews ever published* both are still listed even though neither is streaming. each has stars despite being on the streaming side of the site.

*i wrote 2 others that never were published despite not having any objectionable language, which is one reason why i never bothered writing more even though i value reading member reviews a great deal.

      Delete
    2. Since they've trashed their rating system on the streaming side and dis-integrated the link from ratings on the streaming apps to the dvd side, reviews become more valuable. On the other hand, since I'm having to use other site's ratings to get a feel for what I might like or not, I might as well switch to other site's reviews too. Especially since Netflix seem to be questionable as to what they keep or allow.

I actually don't remember all the movies I've reviewed or not so tracking them down to see what reviews are still around wouldn't work.

  29. Netflix is getting worse. They are removing partial seasons so they can boast that they have the show when they don't have all the episodes. Who wants to watch a show midway. Really.

I am seeing Hulu doing the opposite now. They use to only have one or two current seasons but now they have the full season even shows that are currently airing next day the new episode is up with all of the past seasons.

    1. My guess is that Hulu will get Futurama, or at least the episodes that are leaving NF. In this particular case, I don't think it's Netflix getting rid of Futurama, but FOX saying they can't have it anymore. I hate to take Netflix's side, but I think this time, they're not the bad guy.

As far as what they're bringing on to replace what's leaving, that's a matter of preference, of course, but it does seem like the overall quality of the service is, for the most part, in a downward spiral.

      Delete
    2. No Netflix or Notflix is the bad guys. Really they don't want to spend any more money for FOX content instead to waste money release more mature original turd content.

The only original content I was able to watch besides the kiddie animation stuff which as a adult I get tired of was A series of Unfortunate Events which is TV-PG and is great so NF renewed it two more seasons. Also Annie with a E which is really a CBC series was great too but again not really a NF original. I finished both of them.

    3. While I agree with Carol and, somewhat, with Tony (I like a few of the Netflix mature originals), the recent article in Exstreamist (REPORT: REVIEWS SHOW THAT NETFLIX ORIGINALS ARE STRONGER THAN EVER) indicates that the taste of the three of us is not with the majority. Not a surprise to me since nearly all of those I vote for end up losing. Anyway, I don't see Reed Hastings changing his strategy anytime soon.

    6. I have to agree with what CanandaiguaNY posted. I recently saw a post on Facebook in which people were thinking of cancelling their Netflix accounts due to Netflix opting to no longer fund Sense8. Folks were mad that it ended on a cliff hanger and feared that Netflix might do this with other shows, since this isn't the first Netflix original that has ended. How many of them felt neatly wrapped up, I have no idea, but Netflix is definitely shifting strategies no matter what we few say. Ending one particular show or one particular contract will not stop them from ending this strategy either, as long as a mass exodus does not occur. People threatened to leave when they lost Doctor Who, they are threatening to leave over Sense8, they will threaten to leave over the FOX content. As long as a certain amount stick around or Netflix gains more subscribers, they probably don't care if a small number leave over one show or contract, because if you were only using the service for one thing, you were bound to leave at some point anyway.

  31. Question for NetFlix smartTV viewers. I have two different older Vizio SmartTV models and mid last week something changed on both sets. Normally when I start the Netflix app, the app opens on the left side of the screen with the Launch NetFlix button and a list of trending now titles, but now it never loads the list of trending titles and simply has the Launch button and progress blocks indicating it's trying to load. This has happened in the past, but unplugging (hard reboot) the TV, router, switch and/or modem would clear the problem. Not anymore, and it's on both sets, so I'm curious if anyone else has noticed strangeness recently with the NetFlix app?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. My old Vizio works as you describe. I've not noticed how long it's been since the "trending" list actually loaded because I rarely waited for it. I push the OK button on the remote to launch and go directly to MyList. The trending titles may be the most popular on Netflix right then but (see my comment just above) the most popular titles are usually not what I'd like to see. So, I don't miss this feature.

      Delete
    2. The only reason I waited for the list to populate was I noticed (or imagined) when I pressed Launch before the trending list loaded or selected a profile before my MyList fully loaded in the background, my smartTV would occasionally lock up and not even the remote would work to power it off. My only option was to pull the plug, wait a few seconds and then power it back on. If I waited for all the lists to load, I didn't have that problem. Now, who knows.

Thanks for confirming the list doesn't load. I seem to be in this loop of things suddenly not working. Also last week the NIC card in one of the sets decided to fail, so it's now on wifi. Not so sure I'll go with Vizio next round.

      Delete
    3. I also have had the Vizio lock up, not on lauching Netflix but in the middle of streaming and, like you, a hard reboot (power off/on) is the only way I can fix it. I've also had the remote freeze up, either entirely or for some buttons (a problem in the TV and not in the remote). This too requires a hard reboot. These problems, I agree, are with Vizio, not Netflix.
Netflix does, however, seem to be playing around with its app for Vizio. The "trending" list isn't loading on launch, which doesn't matter to me. And I'm getting access to more info, including on language, with just two clicks on a title on MyList, which I regard as an improvement.

      Delete
    4. Sorry, I wasn't clear about the lock up. Mine was during streaming too and not on the launch. Once I started letting the trending list completely load, the lock up issue went away. Now the trending list is gone, I'll have to see if the lock up issue comes back. It only would lock up during Netflix, but Netflix gets a lot of use.

As for improvements, I've noticed the progress bar while pausing a show no longer blocks out closed caption. We use close caption, so that's another improvement.

      Delete
    5. Hmmm, it seems only one of my smartTVs has the change to the progress bar. So, either it's the first to download an update or it's some kind of bug.

Where is this additional info (language) you're seeing? I'm not finding it.

      Delete
    6. For the language info, click on a poster, scroll down to "audio and subtitles" click on it and you'll get the audio language(s) and the subtitle options. This info was always there but it seems now to be easier to find--or I just discovered where it is.
On the lock up, it does not occur often for me, and it seems to happen mostly during peak streaming periods. My guess is that the stream slows, either at Netflix or with my ISP because of heavy use, and the Vizio then crashes.

      Delete
    7. Turns out the transparent progress bar was some kind of glitch, since the solid bar blocking the CC text is back blocking the text.

      Delete
    8. CanandaiguaNY, The trending list reappeared this morning and I just checked my second Vizio set and it's there too. This means there was a change somewhere, most likely at NetFlix server end. FWIW. Hopefully, this means I won't need to reboot my SmartTV as much as I have been lately. That was getting annoying.

  32. It looks like Netflix is messing with 'My List' functionality. I am unable to 'Move to top' or remove a title from my list using the 'x' when using the 'My List' page (I use manual ordering for 'My List'). When I click on either of those options for a title, it acts like it performed the function. However, when I exit Netflix and return later, the titles are back in their original positions. Could this be a sign of Netflix working to remove additional control from us power users? I wouldn't be surprised if Netflix takes away the manual ordering capabilities of 'My List' in the near future.

    ReplyDelete
  33. i can't speak to X-ing out (deleting) a title, but i moved a title to top with that button this morning. i then moved it down two, and there it remains.

my only My List bugs i've noticed recently are a couple times it didn't load, which was an old problem that went away for a while. i have noticed a couple new netflix web sites the streaming page is running scripts from, including a new one either today or earlier this week. i haven't enabled either site in NoScript and have had no problems other than terrible slowness and locking up the last several weeks, but i probably wouldn't be able to watch anything from within the browser without enabling those scripts. i try to avoid using the netflix streaming site because it's so tedious. they need better coding because whatever they are doing isn't working.

    1. ok, i experienced it myself now: i X'd out (deleted) a title from My List yesterday, and it was still there today when i loaded the ps3 app. i just removed it from there.

  34. Anonymous, I'm having the same problem as you with moving/deleting a title. Also, last night and this morning I couldn't add titles. Clicking the "add" button would make the "adding. . ." message appear, but it never actually added the title. Very frustrating. I was able to add a few things this afternoon, but it's still not back to full functionality. (So far, what I added is still there, even after closing and re-opening the page. Fingers crossed.)

Like you, I am also worried that Netflix will take away the text version of My List, and make finding expiring titles positively agonizing. I'm hoping that the current difficulty is just a matter of them working on the site and/or an overload on their system. It makes me nervous.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. i actually did have that problem of not being able to add a title this week as well. i tried adding a couple from https://www.netflix.com/browse/just-added because it's been updating the last few weeks, and as you say it just says "Adding..." and then doesn't add. however, in my case, i could add them from the homepage once i let the clunky script and graphics load. i may have had to let the extended info for each title i wanted to add load first as opposed to being able to add from a single click on the main page.

      Delete
    2. I've also had the problem of not being able to move titles up MyList (although no problem adding new titles). When I hit the "move to top" button, the title would zoom up, but it'd be back in its original place when I closed the website. This morning, this same problem. I tried grabbing the title and moving it up manually, and this has seemed to work. The new order gets saved. But it's so slow. One expects computers to execute a command, zap. To have to hold down the bottom on the track ball for maybe 8 to 10 seconds while scrolling up through a list of almost 350 titles is just so frustrating. And I can't think what the Netflix engineers think is gained by making this change. Sad.

      Delete
    3. now i had that problem of the order not saving in My List. for the first time, i had to come back and do it again, but it seems ok now.

    7. I think the real problem is netflix proved long ago that they make changes and never test things to see if other things are affected. They have a horrible QC department if that department exists at all. I know many companies that don't even use QC departments to test things before they go live. It is annoying since netflix engineers seem to do things that break the system all the time. If they fired everyone and went back to the original coded screens from years ago they could save a lot of money by never making changes again since they are not good at it anyway.

      Delete
    8. Unfortunately, Netflix can't get by with "never making changes again" since they stream trough a variety of different ISPs, browsers and apps which, themselves, are continually changing ("upgraded" in techspeak) their code. The original Netflix code has to be continually changed to keep up with these changes. It's not just the Netflix engineers who are breaking the system, although I'm sure they sometimes do. It's a dynamic system that they have to struggle to keep up with.

      Delete
    9. Yes, but with all the links in the chain and changes both front end and back end, it makes testing/QC that much more important. If their ECNs are out of control, it reflects on their concern for customer satisfaction. So does response time in resolving these issues. Not to mention such massive changes like the rating system, which is still FUBAR in my opinion and shows that integrated systems seems to be beyond their grasp. Makes me question what their long term plan is if they have one.

      Delete
    10. Lee K, I agree. The fact that Netflix has to deal with a dynamic environment does not mean that they have to be so user-unfriendly in doing so.

    11. My Monday Morning Rant.

Well let's see. Netflix has abandoned the ratings system they were known for, abandoned content without notifying users that have it on their list to the point blog sites fill the gap, de-featured MyList ability to move to #x position and removed mouse over info like the DVD queue still has and now seems to have abandoned maintenance features of MyList altogether. With the exception of removing a title, MyList web version now has the same limited functionality as MyList on my smartTV.

  35. I'm having the same problem, although I tried moving titles manually but it won't let me do that either. It says there's an error, then it goes to the movie page that I was trying to move. I hope they get this fixed soon. So annoying.

    1. I have seen the "try again later" error message on My List, too, using the Manual Sort order with the Chrome browser on my laptop computer. Sometimes when I try to move a title to a new position in My List, it doesn't work and Netflix gives me the error message.

Two things, I think, are at work here. First, after watching a 2 hour movie, when I return to My List, Chrome is not refreshing the webpage but simply reloading it from cache memory.

Second, the communication session between my computer and Netflix's server has gone stale.

The solution I have found is to click on the Netflix logo at the top of the page and return to the Netflix homepage. This re-establishes a communication session between my computer and Netflix's server. Then I hover over Browse and click on My List to re-open the refreshed webpage list. Now I can make changes without an error message. Next time you receive the error message, give this solution a try.

  36. I'm also having a problem moving titles around in My List. I thought I had successfully moved some titles but when I loaded my profile on a different device, they were back to their previous positions. This is getting pretty aggravating, but I'm just losing my faith that Netflix cares at all about what we think. While part of me wants to fight the fight and get back all of the great functionality there once was, I just don't believe it does any good.

    1. yeah, their "solution" most likely would be to remove manual ordering altogether.

    2. I called Customer Service and talked to a supervisor. They are aware of the problem with titles that you "move to top" not staying there, and with titles that you delete by clicking on the X not staying deleted. They are working on the problems; he didn't have an ETA for when it would be fixed, but thought it should be within a few days.

In the meantime, there are alternative "fixes." If you drag and drop a title to the top, it should stay there. And if you go to the My List on the Home page, and delete the title from there, it should be gone when you go back to the My List page. Both of these worked for me, so far. But even if you are still having problems with it, hang in there for a bit longer. I'll keep checking to see when/if it becomes fully functional again.

      Delete
    3. Thanks for sharing this. I'm finding that it works to drag and drop titles from further up to further down. Slow going, but it works. I did call Netflix this morning, and they're aware of the problem.

I have fundamentally changed how I use Netflix in several ways since they dropped the 5-star ratings.
      1) No longer having the value of my saved ratings, I dropped my account and started sharing a friend's account.
      2) I set up a spreadsheet of all the movies I was interested in, looked up their ratings from IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes (Cinesift saved me some time on this), and sorted them according to my own algorithm.
      3) I created one profile with the top 300 or so films from that spreadsheet, listed in descending order. At some point, I'll add more recently added titles to this, using the same process as #2 above.
      4) I created a shorter profile for just the soonest expiring titles I want to watch, from what's listed on this blog. If there are a lot expiring on the same date, I might use the process in #2 above to sort them.
      5) I question my Netflix habit a lot more than I used to, and am more likely now to also watch movies from another streaming service, or in theaters.

  37. This morning, EVERY movie in my DVD queue (with the exception of those that are listed as "releases 7/4/2-17" etc) got hit with a "very long wait". All 141 movies! I've never experienced this before. Does anyone else on here have DVDs as well and is everything "very long wait" for you too? It's too early in the day for me to call support just yet. I have to assume this is some kind of glitch and that every distribution center in the country didn't blow up or burn down overnight.

    1. Yep, mine is like that, too, 458 out of 459 (the one that doesn't have a very long wait is a "releases 7/4/2017"). My DVD home page won't load properly, either. But I am supposed to get another DVD tomorrow and it's being sent today, which is the usual wait time. I tried calling the help number and it's closed. It says it opens at 6 am, but I guess that's Pacific time?

      Delete
    2. I just got off the phone with support. I did tell them that I'm not the only person having the issue and he did say that others are calling about the issue now and that they're looking into it. I assume it's just a stupid glitch and will be fixed before the day is out. I just hope it's fixed before I'm due to have my next lot of DVDs shipped out so I'll know which ones are actually available and which ones are falsely marked with a wait time.

      Delete
    3. i noticed that, too (498 titles), and in my case as well it was too early to call customer service because they've cut back their hours. i checked twitter and saw (only) a couple tweets from other customers (and no responses). i figured i'd give it some time since i am not returning a disc this week.

my guess is it's a calibration error with their algorithm. 3 years ago they changed it, which gave me 100 long and very long waits overnight, up from just 2 or 3. as i've said before, ever since then i've rented long and very long wait titles (and added what i believed would go in that direction), and i'm glad because a lot have gone to "saved" in the ensuing years. i was making progress, even though lately they've been skipping the 10-15 long and very long wait titles at the top and not sending any of them later as an extra disc, so there was some merit to the estimate before they were suddenly all changed to "very long wait."

i'm definitely keeping an eye on this.

      Delete
    4. Interestingly, I don't have this problem on my DVD queue (505 titles). A few very long and short waits, and a very few short waits, just as its been working for years. So maybe one or a few "distribution center[s] in the country did ... blow up or burn down overnight."

      Delete
    5. The lady I spoke with at customer service said that they are dealing with an outage that they are working on, and hopefully that will fix all this. She did not have an estimate of when it should be fixed, but hopes it will be fixed today.

      Delete
    6. That's a good idea about pushing the very long wait DVDs to the top of the queue in case they become completely unavailable and shift down to the saved queue. Normally, I only have one of those in my queue (a French movie from a few years ago) so I think I'll do that just in case.

I also brought up the fact that the DVD releases for the week of July 9 didn't shift up from the saved queue to the regular queue until last night at the same time as the releases for the week of July 16.

Alone in Berlin was originally scheduled for June 20 but stayed in the saved queue until last night as well, rendering me unable to have it shipped to me this past Monday.

By the way, I've noticed that all the movies distributed by A24 end up streaming on Amazon Prime which I also have so I've been able to knock a few of those off my Netflix DVD queue as well.

    8. Also fixed on mine. Glad they got that settled.

    9. Luke: there's another advantage to pushing the very long wait DVDs to the top of the queue. Every so often I get an email stating that the very long wait DVD at the top of my list is not available at my local mailing center, so they'll be sending it to me from another center. I then get two discs overlapping, which is a little bit of a bonus.

From Carol: "One of the reps told me ALL FOX shows would be leaving Netflix within the next year. Sorry, didn't have the guts to ask for all the dates - maybe I'll try that next time."

Drat. I wonder if this includes FX shows. I think I'm going to have to compile a list of all the shows on my list by network so I can take care of all the Fox and FX shows before 2018. And also hopefully avoid a mass expiration of shows from other networks. (I was burned by that when the Discovery Channel and later History Channel contracts expired.) The one thing I will say is that at least the Fox contract seems to be a gradual phase out.

  39. If it from FOX then most likely yes. Don' watch any FOX shows on Notflix they will expire but not all at once Notflix will remove random seasons like the jerks they are instead of the entire series at once.

Hulu is getting many FOX shows old and current so watch them only on there.

  40. I think I will watch whatever I want to watch, thanks.

  41. Good to know about the Fox shows, Nica. Thanks for the heads up.

I hope that doesn't extend to the FX shows either because I love American Horror Story but the most recent season was terrible and so I was thinking of waiting for it to become available on streaming rather than watching it live on regular TV. Of course if there's a chance that FX shows aren't going to be streaming on Netflix anymore then I'm going to have to watch it live.

Tony, I pay for Netflix (DVD and streaming) and Amazon Prime already. I used to occasionally watch something on Hulu back when it was free but I'm not going to pay for a third streaming service. Not everyone is made of money.

    1. It was actually Carol who pointed out the Fox shows on the main page. I just didn't want to keep bogging down the main comments page with discussion and complaints. Those of us with Fox shows on our lists should be vigilant about either getting them watched, checking them for expiration dates, or finding an alternative viewing platform.

    2. Well thanks to Notflix and there mostly turd originals you have to be made of money. I can no longer get along with just one streaming service. I did with NF for years until the original crap started to take over.

However I do understand those on a budget. I guess for them renting disks would be the best solution because at least the disks don't go away.

  42. I noted earlier the Trending List reappeared this morning when I start the Netflix App on my Vizio. Since Netflix must have changed something, I went to the web and tried rearranging my list. The changes stuck this time. FWIW.

I wonder if they rolled back whatever messed it up or if they "fixed" anything else.

    2. I'll have to talk to my QC department about testing. Hah. I'll admit, I only move two titles, exited the page and then reloaded and they were still where I moved them. That was two more than it would let me move before. Maybe I can try some more this evening.

    3. I moved several titles last night and they are still where I moved them. This morning I moved several more and deleted a few. Seems to be working for me.

  43. More MA rated filth from Notflix disgusting as a kids movie.
    https://www.netflix.com/browse?jbv=80091936&jbp=0&jbr=3
Really and I was looking forward to this. I guess Reed Hastings ugly mug says well there are F-words, rap and sex but kids can watch it too. What a loser that needs to be fired now.

    1. I don't know why you think Netflix is pushing Okja on kids. If you go to a kids profile, you don't get results for Okja. Just because it stars a kid does not make it a kid's film (see: The Sixth Sense). Everything I read about it suggested that it was a film about the meat industry or the environment, or both.

      Delete
    2. The Sixth Sense is PG-13 equivalent to TV-14 original movie on NF so that is not a good example. Anyway reading the negative comments on NF own website the only unbiased source of reviews the trailer made it look like it was for kids until some brave ones watched it and it was littered with f-bombs and rap scene.

      Delete

    3. Tony, Nica's point was: "Movie starring a child" does not automatically equal "movie is for children." Ratings are irrelevant to her point. Her example is just fine.

Okja does not have any sex or rap or human rape, if that's what you meant. It does have some adult language, but I doubt that's why it got the MA rating. The TV-14 rating includes "strong, coarse language," and the amount of that in Okja certainly isn't egregious.

I suspect the MA is because of the amount and degree of violence. Did you mean to write "rape scene" instead of "rap scene"? There was a scene in which the female creature was unwillingly mated. The "scene" lasted 3 seconds, and showed her in distress, but nothing sexually graphic. It was more emotionally disturbing than visually so. I think they could have gotten away with a TV-14 rating. Maybe Netflix wanted to make sure parents knew it wasn't a kids' movie, which is the opposite of your accusation.

I watched all four trailers that Netflix provides for Okja. The main trailer does have some scenes that do look a little kids-movieish (young girl has sfx hippo-like creature for a pet/friend), but anyone bothering to watch the whole trailer could easily tell that this is NOT a kids' movie. If people jump to conclusions, that's on them, not Netflix. I do not think it is Netflix’s responsibility to spoon feed each subscriber only those films that the person will approve of. There’s only so much an algorithm can do.

As far as Hastings deciding what kids can and can't watch, I don't think that's his call, and I think the evidence proves he knows that. Some parents (myself included) allow children to watch, read, and listen to whatever they want. The good ones (myself included) make sure they know what their children are exposed to, partake with them, and engage them in discussions about their thoughts on it. When the thrill of defying parents is taken away, kids usually find they like C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien better than Henry Miller.

Tony, you're welcome to write whatever you want on this page. Do be advised, though, that the constant comments about MA filth and garbage do get tiresome. We don't all share your views on that. Also, when you make accusations that can't be supported with facts, you come across as much less intelligent than I know you are.

Btw, for the level of talent associated with Okja (which is why I watched it), I thought it was a let-down. The writing didn't work for me. Too heavy-handed in some places, too inconsistent in others, too cartoonish in others, not well-integrated over all. Imho.

    4. For a look at how the MPAA rates films, including such criteria as sex, language and violence, see This Film Is Not Yet Rated (2006), which is not streaming on Netflix but is available on the DVD plan and is streaming on basic YouTube. The MPAA has made some minor changes to its rating system since the documentary came out, see http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Documentary-Forces-MPAA-Make-Changes-4300.html.

    5. the irony of that film not streaming on netflix is it was distributed by, you guessed it, red envelope. if memory serves, however, this would not be appropriate viewing for Tony. for everyone else, i remember it being interesting.

as to Okja, i am familiar with the director's work and was not expecting a kiddie flick. i was a little taken aback by netflix booking ad time on cbs sunday morning (the program that runs on sunday morning), and that tv spot did come off like a children's movie gone awry.

      Delete
    6. Exactly. Well with the thing they pulled with Marvel too saying well it will be for everyone well started with Daredevil but it has a MA rating I truly believe that NF thinks that mature and PG are the same.

      Delete
    7. Now I can't complain here either. I am very PC because profanity does bother me quite bit. As for MA rated I really tried to watch them years ago. I remember the first MA rated program which was on NBC of all places a movie about Nazi's it was actually rated R by the MPAA but I was shocked when NBC showed it uncut.

Then there is HBO where I might have watched the pilot episode of a TV show then the next one was filled with F bombs. Later finding out the first episode or few were PG then the F bomb ones were MA rating. The Tracy Ulmin show was a example.

Then there were shows like south park which in the beginning were not really MA rating in my book the first few seasons they use to bleep out the s and f word. Then FX the Shield a MA rated program the first that ruined FX network for me said the s word but after I heard the F word one time I never tuned in again.

So there that is why I will NEVER watch any MA programs. For NF to release them good for them but not good for them to remove 90% of what I loved to watch to add more MA rated filth. They could just keep both but they rather just waste money on the filth and force it on everyone.

    8. i think you're referring to schindler's list. i remember nbc airing that uncensored with, i think, one intermission. it was a special occasion; clearly they were not in the business of running movies either uncensored or without commercials. i assume they thought any complaints would be outweighed by appreciation, given the subject matter and quality of the film. i never heard about an fcc fine or anything.

i have to admit i have been watching the curious rise of the "f" word on basic cable, most notably on fx. the "s" word is more rampant on cable, and, i think, as early as the '90s, shows on network tv were flirting with using that word late into primetime, but i don't know of any network shows that use it uncensored currently or in recent years. i've observed with great interest a big increase in colorful language on network tv that i never heard there in the '90s but not those two (curse) words.

as for marvel, netflix seems to be going for one specific audience with these, but i think marvel and dc are showing in their (attempts at) network and cable shows that there is room for more types of shows. i wouldn't be surprised if eventually one is produced for netflix that isn't MA.

although i do watch MA content, i agree with you that the content netflix produces and acquires seems imbalanced right now, and that does seem to be an oversight, but as long as they see continued growth and financial success i think we all know they'll continue to do what they're doing and pay little attention to gripes from customers.

    9. The way the service is going first they screw around with the classic TV shows expiring this year Murder she wrote, etc now they screwed around with Futurama again saying that I would cancel if they removed seasons which they did. Also lets not forget they took off the BBC content Doctor Who, wait the FOX content, X-files, Buffy.

Now all that was left for me to watch is Once upon a time which I am sick of if you watch it without giving away spoilers they basically recycle the same story line and issues each season until you get bored with it.

The CW shows which I already watched on the network so they are just a refresh.

Now if they screw around with Heartland a show I did not give a chance because it is from Canada I can tell you they make better shows with better stories than here in America with recycled ideas. Only because of Anne show which is not a real NF original a CBC show. If that goes away what is left besides a few kiddie original shows.

The only original I loved from NF a series of events won't be coming back in a while. NF could have at least released more content PG like that not just the kiddie animated stuff. So now NF is just for Heartland but knowing them they will remove it before I can even catch up or insult remove random seasons but say hey we got "New Episodes" but only the last two seasons.

      Delete
  44. Okay I am watching Heartland a lot on NF the only thing left to watch really. They better not screw me and take that away while I am watching or decide well we just added season 9 but sorry season 1-8 are expiring so we can use that bandwidth for more MA rated garbage. My quote not there's.

  45. Last rant for this week I hope.
Google should buy NetFlix. They are both good in pushing filth and pretending that they are for the family.

On another topic I finally singed up for Boomerang TV service now that they have TV apps.

  46. Castlevania one of my favorite video games series is MA rated too. Another Notflix original I won't watch.

What else is Notflix going to ruin for me next. Once they drop heartland and they will never thought Futurama would go away I can drop this miserable service.

  47. HELLO FELLOW COMPLAINERS!
I have created a fresh Complaints page, lest we get to the limit on comments here.
We do have several threads going here, including:
    > The diminishing amount of wholesome programming on NF.
    > The ongoing problems with My List functionality
    > Issues on the DVD site

Hopefully, we can continue all of those on the new page without too much loss of continuity. Feel free to refer back to this page, if you think your current point would be better understood. I think it would be confusing if some comments go on the new page, and some on the old, so please put everything on the new page, now. (It's okay to copy it on this page, if you think that's important. We still have about 40 comments here, before Blogger throws us onto an overflow page.)

    Thanks!
